Probably not, but as long as a leadoff man is getting on base 40+ % of the time he's doing his job. How many .400+ OBP that fit our speed criteria are out there?

Kind of hard to blame a manager for that.Some teams have very good leadoff hitters. The Angels have Chone Figgins. Jacoby Ellsbury looks very promising in that role for Boston. The Mets have Jose Reyes. Brian Roberts has been doing it well for years in Baltimore. There are others. Jimmy Rollins was the MVP last year, but I still would rather have him in the #2 spot with his punch, plus OBP has never been one of his strengths. Unfortunately, some managers still seem more determined to put speed at the top of the order, even if they guy doesn't get on base all that often.

The problem is that Dusty puts together his lineups based on whether or not guys run like they belong at the top of the order instead of the approach they take at the plate. Hairston has been hitting much better than Patterson and his OBP was 100 points higher than Patterson coming into tonight ... so what justification is there for those guys hitting where they are in the lineup? It would be much easier if he didn't manage the same way in Cincinnati that he did in Chicago ... Patterson made an out without advancing the runner his first time up ... that's not a real positive impact. Dusty is a lousy manager, in my opinion. If you think criticism of his moves is "petty" ... well, you're entitled to your opinion, too. But instead of discussing the issue, you just make smart-aleck remarks. Real constructive. Patterson hitting second and Hairston, whose OBP is 100 points higher than Patterson's, in the seven-spot ... gotta love Dusty and his lineups. When does Neifi Perez become available? Yeah, three of the first four hitters reached base ... Patterson was the only one that made an out. Any lineup with Patterson in either of the first two spots is worthy of criticism. I'm not going out of my way to keep harping on it, as you and gametime seem to think I am. But if I see something noteworthy of criticism, I'll make the point. I'll post what I want, when I want, as always within BGP guidelines. If you don't like it, don't read it. It may not be a daily basis but you sure do like to make it a point to show your dislike of Patterson and Dusty.

I don't dislike Corey Patterson, although I'm the first to say that he isn't a very good player. I didn't think he was a bad signing by the Reds, if he's used properly. Dusty isn't the guy to do that.

There really isn't much there to debate. I think just about everyone has conceded to the fact that Patterson isn't what the Reds need. Yes, there is something about Patterson that Baker seems to be enamored with. We don't know why. We don't understand it. There really isn't any debate about it, so why keep brining it up?

It's old news and Reds fans agree that Patterson isn't what the Reds needed. Nothing we can do. A debate is usually when two sides disagree not when they do agree.
