In a heartbeat. So if that happens, his big numbers are gone and guess what the Reds win more games. Pretty simple. If Hamilton and his gaudy numbers are expendable, so is Dunn. Adam Dunn was responsible for more than 1/4 of the Reds runs last year. Who is going to make up for that production when Dunn is gone? Griffey will be gone at the end of the year, and Bruce will replace him. Are you comfortable with an outfield combination of Jay Bruce, Ryan Freel and Norris Hopper? I don't care how good your pitching is, you've got to have some resemblance of an offense to win ball games. I'm sure Aaron Harang will be glad to confirm this for you.

I agree with what you're saying but. What's it going to cost to keep him? Would Aaron Harang defer some of his money to keep Dunn? I think Dunn will get 17 to 20 million per from some big city team. I don't see Cincy able to keep up at the pace.

The Reds would have no problem affording Dunn next year if they wanted to sign him to a long term contract. The question is would Dunn want to return to a place where he's not appreciated.

May 21, 200818 yr I agree with the ones that said I think that I would rather have a quality glove/outfielder that can also hit for a solid (.300 maybe more) average or maybe another quality pitcher. BP, Votto and a couple of others are going to hit HR's. I would not let Dunn go for nothing mind you, just that I would be shopping. Right now (while he is HOT) is a good time to be doing just that if they (Reds) are going to. I said earlier on some of the "track the Reds" thread post that I may be to thank (along with some others) for breaking him out of the slide. . I trashed him a couple of times and he went off on this streak of serving me crow.:lol:
May 21, 200818 yr Small ball doesn't work very well in parks like GABP, when the balls fly out with regularity. And Phillips isn't a small-ball player. The Reds need good hitters, period. They don't have enough of them. Exactly, they need good hitters. Dunn is not a good hitter. Dunn's numbers are high every year, but like it has already been stated those numbers come from a few hot streaks and then the rest are in meaningless at bats. We need guys who can put the ball in play and keep rally's going. Your definition of small ball might not "work" in GABP, but being able to manufacture runs without hitting homeruns will.
May 21, 200818 yr I have to agree with you. As much as people say he isn't consistent, he's still averaging 40 and 100 a year over the past 4 seasons. He isn't a contact hitter and thats what people need to realize. Some hate him for it, and others love the fact that when he does hit, he hits the long ball and drives in over 100 a year. Dunn, like all good players, goes through slumps though. It just proves he's human. It's not like he's the only big time player who has gone through a slump or has a low batting average in the league. David Ortiz is a prime example of this. (.253 avg), but I'm sure you won't hear a Red Sox fan complain and ask for him to be traded. Please don't ever make that comparison again

Dunn's numbers the last 4 years: HR: 46, 40, 40 , 40 RBI: 102, 101, 92, 106 Runs: 105, 107, 99, 101 BB: 108, 114, 112, 101 OBP: .388, .387, .365, .386 OPS: .957, .927, .855, .940 Please name all of the players that have those numbers over the last 4 years. Once again, you left out AWFUL defense and nothing short of that word right there. You left out an average that for the past few years hovering anywhere from 220 to 250. You also left out 175+ strikeouts. I am sure I could make a case with a lot of people by widdiling the stats down to what I wanted it to look like. So if you think ANYONE is consistent batting that low and that many strikeouts, I have nothing left to say. Also he has accounted for a lot of our runs in past years and will this year, but meaningless homeruns after a big situation blunder, mean nothing. I know last year there were only 2 others that put him numbers similar to him. 40 HR, 100 RBI's, 100 R's, and 100 Walks.
