In this case, Dunn plays in an era which is a little more offensive-oriented than the 1970s, when Jackson was at his peak. There's no doubt that this is a different era, and expansion has diluted the overall quality pitching depth, but for those who try to argue that Dunn's numbers are irrelevant, unimpressive, or that he's consistently bad, well let's just say they need to study the game of baseball a lot better.

How many have hit 40 HR, driven in 100 RBI, scored 100 runs, and walked 100 plus times every year the past 4 years. You still haven't listed any other players that have done that. If the name of the game is to score runs, batting average is not as important as OBP, OPS, runs, and RBIs. People are more concerned about style than substance. Ankeil and Ludwick aren't even arbitration eligible yet.

May 22, 200818 yr Some of you really need to learn the game of baseball. Batting average isn't everything and if you judge a player on that solely, we'd be having this discussion about a lot more players than just Dunn. OPS and OBP are much more important than a guys batting average. Dunn gets walked 100+ times a season but still manages to drive in 100+ and hit 40 HR's a season while also scoring 100 runs. Adam Dunn accumulates practically one third of the Reds offense every year. How is that not producing and being consistent? Again, the Reds have a lot of players in the last year of their contracts and Dunn is the most important one to keep. Everyone keeps talking about his salary but fail to mention all of the money that will be available from the expiring contracts of the free agents. It's not like Dunn is the only one from keeping the Reds from getting pitching. With Cueto, Volquez, and Harang, the Reds are just one solid #4 away from being a contender. Why has Harang lost so much this year? LACK OF RUN PRODUCTION. Having someone like Dunn is a must in their line up.

You can't single out one player as the reason they don't score. Last time I checked it was a TEAM effort. You certainly can't sit here and blame the guy with the most run production. Imagine how much lower that number would be without Dunn's production.
