May 20, 200818 yr For the Reds to keep Dunn, they need to keep building the pitching staff and continue to improve the field players. If they can get to the point where they don't need him going crazy at the plate to win, then they'll be OK. If the reason they won the last 6 games is because of Dunn, then we can point to his lackluster start as the reason for their 1st 23 losses. So can they keep him, get more pitching, find a catcher and a CFer, and a couple of good bench guys ( Hatte and Javy have to go).? Can the Reds afford to pay him what he will want to be a somewhat role player?
May 20, 200818 yr I hope they keep Dunn. He is a quality person and recently suffered some family issues that are straightening out. I hope he keeps it up (the hot streak, not the issues).

But in a couple weeks or maybe it's even a month or so from now, when he comes back down to earth, the threads will read TRADE ADAM DUNN. A 13 million dollar player does not get hot for two weeks, hit 7 or 8 homeruns and make a few AVERAGE plays in the field, then slump for another two weeks horribly. A 13 million dollar player is consistently playing at the very very least solid defense and having meaningful at bats.

The numbers he has put up over the last 4 years on a consistent basis are pretty impressive numbers. I'm still waiting for someone to name all of the other players that have put up those kind of numbers the last 4 years.

As much as people say he isn't consistent, he's still averaging 40 and 100 a year over the past 4 seasons. He isn't a contact hitter and thats what people need to realize. Some hate him for it, and others love the fact that when he does hit, he hits the long ball and drives in over 100 a year. Dunn, like all good players, goes through slumps though. It just proves he's human. It's not like he's the only big time player who has gone through a slump or has a low batting average in the league. David Ortiz is a prime example of this. (.253 avg), but I'm sure you won't hear a Red Sox fan complain and ask for him to be traded.

His salary equates to improved pitching. You think if they could dump him for another Volquez, they wouldn't do it? In a heartbeat. So if that happens, his big numbers are gone and guess what the Reds win more games. Pretty simple. If Hamilton and his gaudy numbers are expendable, so is Dunn.
