May 23, 200818 yr Money, speed and defense ... Oh yea and hustle, a BA 100 points better, 15 or 20 more RBI's. THAT is why they wanted him.
May 23, 200818 yr Thanks goodness because I haven't seen you say anything yet but a bunch of words. So what if Dunn strikes out a lot. If you can't understand how important and impressive the rest of Dunn's numbers are then you've told me all I need to know about how much you know about the game of baseball. I guess when Dunn's contract runs out at the end of the year, and you see how much money he'll make on the free agent market it will all be due to some dumb old GM that just has $60 million dollars extra lying around that his owner wanted him to get rid of. I'm still waiting for someone, anyone to name all of the players that have those numbers over the last 4 years. As far as I know BGP is all about words , I guess I am missing something chief. But if you want to pay Dunn 13 million a year ok. But he needs to produce, play defense, be a leader, etc like some of the following 13 million dollar players. A-rod, Jeter, Santana, Pujols,Soriano. Bottom line, there is no agruement for Adam Dunn to be paid like this or any where in that range of 5 million dollars.:sssh:
May 23, 200818 yr Catch 22 or should I say 44. Where do you spend the money? Besides, Votto, Keppy, Phillips, JR, and Edwin aren't exactly hacks. Add Dunn, that's supposedly 6 solid guys, but for some reason it's not working. I believe Dunn and JR are the root of that some reason. This discussion is repeating itself so I'm going to walk. :walk:Keppinger is filler material, a stopgap until someone good comes along. Griffey is in the twilight of his career. Encarnacion is OK, but still has to take a couple of steps forward. Votto is off to a good start, but we'll see how the pitchers work him when they get a book on him. Phillips is solid, but probably a bit overrated by Reds' fans. In short, the "surrounding cast" isn't all that great, either. The Reds have some problems, but it's patently unfair to place as much of the blame on Dunn as some her prefer to do.

I can still remember when his Tom's River Team won the LLWS back in 1998. He's doing very well in Dayton, look for him to be in AA before long.

"RFg" represents the range factor for Dunn. "lgRFg" represents the average LFer. That's telling us that Dunn makes more plays than the average LFer. :sssh: http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/dunnad01.shtml Someone will point out that his fielding percentage is lower than the average. That's why analysts came up with the Range Factor to truly analyze a fielder's ability.
May 23, 200818 yr Well that is some good stuff. Do they have a ranking on players who judge the balls the best?
May 23, 200818 yr Well that is some good stuff. Do they have a ranking on players who judge the balls the best? You know it's really hard to argue with people who refuse to look at the facts. If he didn't judge the ball very well, well then he wouldn't have an above average range factor now would he?

May 23, 200818 yr I don't know. Are you trying to tell me/everyone that Adam Dunn is a good fielder? I'm saying Dunn is an above average left fielder. People always want to slam him for his fielding, but the numbers say there are worse left fielders in the league than Dunn. He obviously will never win a gold glove, but he's not as bad as some people try to make him out to be.
May 23, 200818 yr You lost me with the Phillips comment.Fair enough. I didn't state my case fully. Phillips is a fine player, and the best the Reds have. His only downside is that he is a little bit of a free swinger and doesn't walk as much as he should. Nevertheless, with his power, speed and glove he's pretty good. Heck, two years ago I was the one telling Reds fans that Phillips could turn out to to be a heck of a pickup. My point is the Reds don't have enough good players, and some want to put too much blame on Dunn for the team's shortcomings.
May 23, 200818 yr Everyone makes the assumption that Dunner's 40 HR, 100 RBI's, 100 RS is so easily replaced, somehow. Looking at last year, ARod did that. Prince Fielder did that. I will count CPena from Tampa as doing it as he had 99 runs scored. So, the production that he has done in the past 3 years (?) you feel the Reds can a) do without; b) easily replaced only 3 others matched it last year.

You would have quickly forgotten about Dunn had they traded him for Volquez. What Hamilton is doing would have more than made up for Dunn's numbers. I think a team can succeed without a one guy producing so much. Note the word TEAM

Note the word TEAM So, you think one of the present players are going to produce MORE with Dunn gone. If they can produce more why are the not doing it now???? That makes no logical sense. Well, Edwin will hit more HR's and drive in more RBI's with Dunn gone. Well, Brandon and Votto will hit more HR's and drive in more RBI's and score more runs with Dunn gone. WHY????? If they can do it sans Dunn why not do it with Dunn?????

I look at the 3 teams that are leading there respective divisions in the NL and see no one leading the league in HRS, or RBIs on those teams. You don't think Hamilton is better than Dunn. No one cried when he left. Also you act like no one will be in LF if Dunn leaves. I'm going to guess they will go ahead and still field a left fielder.
