I can say It has slowed me down alot. I went from driving my 4x4 turbo diesel truck to a Yamaha Moped to work. When it cost $100 to fill it up, that was the final straw. Now around 3 bucks is the fill up.

It has slowed me down on what I eat. Instead of going out and getting something to eat during my lunch break I now pack my lunch.

 

 

It may not be slowing people on the roads but you can bet it's slowing them in other ways!

Danville $3.69

Everywhere else $3.85-$3.95

I just got gas in time, when I got there the guy said good timing another 10 minutes and were raising it 15 cents.

My dad and were discussing this and this is what we feel needs to be done.

 

The President needs to order either gas prices frozen at 3.00$ till after the election/or being the gas rationing that drove prices down in the late 20th century.

 

We need to make a major push for alternative fuels, quickly, screw the oil companies they have made enough money off of us.

 

Open the strategic reserves....I read somewhere today that pumping the ANWR would take 10 years to get the first barrell and being pumped at full strength would be gone in 2 years tops.

Few comments....

 

- We can't freeze the price or we already would have

 

- We badly need alternatives but we are NOWHERE close on them. Big oil is taking all there profits and pocketing it and giving it right back to there shareholders. In terms of there profits they are putting in the bare minimum when it comes to finding new oil fields or funding new sources and why should they? If they find more oil, there profits go down. Sure we have teased them with a few meetings in congress over the past year, but they are going to continue to "do what they want until somebody tries to stop us."

 

- The reserves are not an option at all. Do you know that if we pulled out all of our oil in the reserves we would only be able to fuel the entire country for 2 months? Futhermore, senate voted today, to suspend shipments to the reserves to save 70k barrels a day... yeah this is gonna save MAYBE 10 cents a gallon if that. By the way this is McCains big plan to curb prices, let's see if it does anything. Also, we are one Iranian shrimping boat captain away from WWIII and them cutting off oil right away and 8-10 dollar gas. If we had double our current reserves of 700 million, then we could try and manipulate the market like the Saudi's do. But we are cutting off shipments for the rest of the year?

 

 

- Drilling in ANWR was turned down again today. At the end of the day you got idiots on both sides of the room in Washington and until someone gets serious... hold on to your wallets.

 

I posted a week or so ago we were in the 9th inning with gas prices... I was wrong. After the Goldman-Sachs 200 dollar crude prediction the speculators are gonna run with it.

 

4.25-4.50 gas is right around the corner. The GOVT wants gas above 2 dollars but I dont tihnk they want it at 4... thats why you are seeing them start to take small measures.

I prefer high prices to shortages, long lines at the pumps, and stations closing because they have no gas.

 

To say that your source of information on the ANWR reserves is wildly inaccurate would be a gross understatement. Try a Google search and skip the entries for Democratic Underground, the Sierra Club, Media Matters, and MoveOn.org. You will learn that we could not pump ANWR dry in two years if we tried.

 

Here is a question for you. If it will take 10 years to develop the reserve in ANWR if we started today, in how many years could we be producing oil if we wait 10 years to begin drilling?

 

ANWR is not the only game in town. We have large reserves off of both coasts and in the Gulf. In addition, we have large oil shale deposits waiting to be tapped and coal can be economically converted to gasoline with today's technology.

 

The oil companies are not the cause of high gas prices - our government is.

:thumb: I agree whole heartedly. I do wish that Bush was articulate enough to use the bully pulpit to direct anger where it rightly belongs. Reagan would have had the nation ready to tar and feather our current Congress over its failure to act to open up reserves for drilling and to facilitate the construction of new refineries and synthetic fuel plants..
