While you are right.. Hillary and Barak are enjoying this. People are going to be so bitter about 4.00 gas in 5 months, they will vote whoever says the word windfall cause there tired of being hosed.

The oil companies are not the cause of high gas prices - our government is.

 

The government, oil companies, and automotive industry are all in this together. There's no reason the automotive industry can't make more fuel efficient cars, especially here in the states, and especially with the technology we have today.

Add to it that GM is one of the leaders overseas in diesel technology.

I agree. You see, I have no problem with the people that own the oil, charging us whatever they want, because that's the American way. I do have a problem with the fact that we don't have many viable options to lessen our fuel consumption on a grand scale. People in other civilizations and societies have been paying way more than us for gasoline for a long long time, but they have found ways around the problem to lessen it as much as possible. That's where we need to see the most change, IMO.

And they do. But those cars are more expensive. And no one will buy them.

 

Why should the automotive industry be compelled to make fuel efficient cars that no one will buy? People want cheap cars with all the fancy gimmicks, that is where the real money is.

It's more complicated than just this, but yes, your post makes a good point. In very simplistic terms, one could easily make an arguement that Bush came into office with only two agenda's, finish his father's war, and make sure the oil barons and speculator's got richer than rich.

Well you may be right about that, guess we should just let them toy with us whenever they want to and jerk us around.

 

I guess I am not explaining it very well. Kind of hard in a few sentences. If it was both easy to explain and understand I guess it would be simple to do something about it.

 

I am not saying it is the end of the world, but it does tick me off that they have us were they can do whatever they want to. If it went to 10 bucks a gallon we would still have to buy it.

Please explain how opening additional oil reserves up for drilling helps President Bush maximize his income. Would it not be in his best financial interests, assuming that your allegation is true, to create an artificial shortage of oil by backing every extreme environmental position out there? Would he not be fighting against drilling in the ANWR and off of our coasts and scolding other countries to reduce their oil production as well?

IF BUSH WAS MAKING MONEY OFF OF THE HIGH OIL PRICES, THEN WHY WOULD HE SUPPORT INCREASING SUPPLY? INCREASING SUPPLY (AND THEREFORE INCREASING COMPETEITION) WOULD LOWER PRICES AND THEREFORE LOWER PROFITS.
