All In Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Honestly believe this. Here in Mason County, on any given night all of the restaurants are packed. It seems like every 2nd or 3rd vehicle you meet on the highway is an SUV or large pickup truck. Was in line at Wal-mart just the other day trying to pay for gas in a line 10 deep because every single person in front of me was getting gas and at least 2 cartons of cigs, several got 3 or 4. I would like to see it get to a price where it actually affects people. It seems like people are charging things, waiting on George's check to be issued.
newarkcatholicfan Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 In my neck of the woods we have noticed a major decline of tarffic and the local eating places are dead. It has already made those around here change things in a big way.
John Anthony Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Once it gets to 5.00 you will see major cut backs
Qryche11 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Folks are charging their gas and food which is going to bite them in the long run when they max out their cards and still have to get to work and have to fill the pantry. Gotta cut back on small things to keep the fuel in the tank. Eating out is one of them I have cut out. Pack lunch for work saves a ton.

I think it has already had an impact on people. The biggest concern is when it reaches prices as they are now the price on everything else increases and that is where most are feeling the crunch. What we are seeing now is only a drop in the bucket as to what will come.
sweet16 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 It has changed us. We got a BP card where we can get 5% back. I never used a Credit card to buy gas until last October. I know charge all gas and pay it off each month and get the 5% back. We do not eat out now unless we go for other things. In other words we don't just drive to go eat out anymore. Also at a gas station I don't buy a drink where in the past I would from time to time. I bring one from home.
MoreheadEagle Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I'm thinking about trying this stuff. It's called CA40. I've heard good things about it. http://www.ca40g.com/home.php
Sting Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I think it will affect people more and more all the time. It will cause people to be more efficient, such as combing trips, and will eventually start curbing behaviour by people cutting back on road trips or unnecessary travel.
HammerTime Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 It won't do anything till be people literally can't afford it.
madman Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 The middle and lower income families will feel the bite real soon. Doesn't look good for our country, it's only going to get worse.
oldrambler Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I talked with a man tonight that said that he had talked to a prominent local Oil Co. exec. in our area of NEKY and was told that gas would very likely be at 4.00 per gallon by Memorial Day and it wasn't going down anytime soon.

You sir are correct... very accurate prediction. Won't drop till August and when it does it may drop to 2.85 at best.
MBWC41 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I'm thinking about trying this stuff. It's called CA40. I've heard good things about it. http://www.ca40g.com/home.php I watched a story on dateline once about the fuel additives on the market. Basically, of the major sellers they tested, none of them did jack. Not saying the one you linked wouldnt work.
Musketeer_alum97 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Another thing to think about is how the rising costs of fuel will affect the prices of other things as well. Companies will raise the costs of their products to cover the fuel costs plus the loss of business due to people cutting back on things. Soon not only will we not be able to afford to go anywhere, but when we do we won't be able to afford to do or buy anything.
PurpleHaze Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I can tell you that PH and I only get out to go to his appointments and to go to the store. We have, for many years, only gone to the store once a month. We purchase what we need at that time. When we need more bread or milk, we will go then. However, I really try just to make homemade bread...it really saves. I have only filled my car up once in the last two months...the last time the van was filled was a month ago. The van is on a half a tank and my car is still full.
