I doubt it will be like Lofton. There aren't enough UHA fans on here to constantly shove it down our collective throats that Scotty is not at UK! In all seriousness, I think it will be more of a "man I wish we could have got him" instead of "why didn't we get him?" I do not think BCG could have done any more than he did to get him to come to Kentucky. Scotty was a known UT fan after his sophomore year in high school, and apparently that did not change.

I would have liked to see him in Blue, but, in all honesty, I think UT is probably the better fit for him. I hope he has a good career there.

I've lost alot of confidence on the recruiting front. I think we needed Hopson to help establish UK as a legitimate threat on the recruiting trail. We need to get back up in the top 10 classes again.

Honestly I think Hopson has a lot more to work on than Miller at this point in time but seeing how Hopson develops will be key. His ceiling is higher than Millers but to help out right away next year Miller should be the better option. Now in 2 years I have the right to take any of this back .

Don't look at it that literally. Hopson was Pearl's to lose. If BCG had been on him for as long as Pearl had, then I would be more upset. But because UK came in so late, it shouldn't be considered a head to head defeat.

I dont really consider it a head to head defeat. I knew it would be tough to get him. I just wish we had that one big superstar coming in that I knew could take over the role of primary scorer. Someone to put up points besides Patterson. Maybe BCG still has a trick or two up his sleeves. Hopefully :thumb:

I think Miller, Liggins and Galloway are kids any program would like to have given their talent level.

 

I don't think any of the three are going to put up big scoring numbers, so that puts them in the role of setting up Patterson and Meeks. It's a similar role to guys like Jasper, Harris, Stevenson and the rest of the roster on hand.

 

UK is at a point they are still one scoring presence short of getting back to what is expected. Hopson would have expedited that process...

I agree with you but Galloway said he is really working on his shooting though. He is an excellent passer, great defender, just a great athlete and ya gotta love a 6'7' point guard. I know one analyst who said he will play in the NBA. Same analyst who projected Stephen Curry in the NBA, this was back in 2006. We still have Jodie Meeks... he can score.

 

Regardless I still want a big man. That should be UK's priority.

Personally I think UT's wide open, high octane offense, coupled with the fact Hopson won't have the ridiculous expectations on his shoulders to carry the program, and also Pearl's loose feel good atmosphere versus Billy G's boot camp esque style really makes it the choice over UK.

 

 

While he might not have had as huge expectations on his shoulders as I predicted than, he is still making the choice I expected. Good luck to the kid. I hope him the best just as I did with Lofton years ago.

Every kid with his skill set is said to be "working hard on their outside shot". I'm not doubting you, but just looking at what we have on paper for this UK class...

He's on a visit to the Knoxville campus, which is where I reached him a few seconds ago on his cell phone. I asked him why he chose Tennessee, and this was his response: "Why not Tennessee? There's a big tradition here, plus I know coming in here at the program I've got a good chance of coming in at the starting two-guard because Chris Lofton's leaving." He added that he felt comfortable with the coaching staff.

So what did Tennessee have over Mississippi State? "It just seemed like I could have more success here," said Hopson, who wants to be a one-and-done. "We're going to have the top RPI next year in schedule play so I know we're going to have a lot of ESPN games, CBS games, things like that."

Hopson, you'll recall, had an oral commitment to Mississippi State for over a year before reneging on the eve of the early signing period last November. Given that, it begged the question of whether this was a firm commitment to Tennessee or if there were a chance he would change his mind once more.

The first day of the late signing period is April 16.
