I think the idea of starting right away was very appealing and UT had been in with him for a long long time.

I don't think BCG missed or lost the kid because they were never able to get him on campus. If they would have gotten him on then it would be more of a bitter pill to swallow.

Lofton and J Smith are gone, add Tyler Smith's likely gone, and there is a lot of PT and shots for Hopson.

Sure could have used him but there was too much ground to make up.

I thought the play-with-the-coaches mind ploy was also used to some extent when I first read this, too.

With World Wide Wes involved he could try all day and lose him to Memphis State...

Once that got off the ground, Louisville backed off Evans, and they'd been heavier on him than anyone. Cal has to leave for any other school to have a chance.

That's the most disturbing thing.

I would have liked to have had this kid, but I also was leary due to the "lazy" comment many have made. Never saw him play, but read a lot about what he has done. I guess I was torn and did not want to lose another diamond in the rough to the Evil Orange Empire. Ah, a door closes and a window opens, I guess. Maybe we're in tight with another scorer.

Those that know me will tell you jokes on April 1 aren't up my alley...

Great fit for Scotty. He can shoot with reckless abandon, and won't have to play defense.

 

Wish him well, and will root for him. Except with UT plays UK of course.

Oh well, at least it is over and time to move on. I would like to know what the snake sold him on. The way I see it, he's not a program changer, just a piece of the puzzle. Hopefully, Roderick Flemings becomes eligible and BCG can land him. If he could land him I will feel that losing Hopson won't hurt as much.

I don't think Hopson could make it with BCG. I saw enough of Hopson at the State Tourny to know.

 

Actually, I have heard the opposite about Hopson, and the exact same about Miller....will be interesting to find out.

Kentucky can't get everyone, but this is a big hit.

 

Anyone who watched just a little bit of Kentucky's season knows how badly they need a scorer. Bradley and Crawford are gone. You got PP, but someone has to score, actually someone else has to stay healthy enough to score.

 

Say what you will about Hopson's attitude, but he can flat out score. He will fit that run and gun style at UT perfectly.

 

Attitude and BCG do not Mesh...and if what I've seen the last coupla years coming out of Knoxville,attitute and Bruce Pearl do not mesh...but good luck to Hopson.

Maybe the best dunker, but his outside J has always looked pretty average to me

Didn't really seem like BCG wanted him. Bruce recruited him a little harder. Let him go to UT and be lazy.

Hopson commits to Vols

Scotty Hopson of Hopkinsville, Ky., committed to Tennessee on Tuesday after making his official visit.

 

The 6-foot-5 Hopson has established himself as the best shooter in the state of Kentucky.

 

Hopson has been named a McDonald's All-American and is the No. 9-ranked player in the nation according to Rivals.com.

 

Hopson also considered Mississippi State, Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati.

I just don't agree with the best shooter in the state comment. :confused:

He made the right decision. He would have had a difficult time playing for BCG. He would have transferred before Christmas, imo. Pearl is more likely to tolerate his moments of laziness on the court, and his lack of defensive effort. On the D-1 level he can't get by with playing only in spurts, like he did in high school. It will take an all out effort.

Before this thread turns into something that it was not started or intended to be I will say my congratulations to Scotty right now! Hope he is successful at what ever he does!
