The pre-game video before the championship game was awesome!

What were some of the highlights?

Most of it is from ESPN's The Season.
Oh yeah, that's the piece that was supposed to be about high school basketball in Kentucky, yet apparently they didn't get farther west then Danville.
Not sure why this is constantly an excuse for teams. Holmes certainly wasn't fatigued. If you look at point production, the final quarter was Holmes' best. The only quarter in which they outscored Mason (21 - 16). I'd say Holmes was in great shape down the stretch, just dug a hole early that they couldn't get out of. It may have been jitters or just bad luck, but it wasn't fatigue.

Why was Holmes thrown out there? I don't think I ever mentioned them or fatigue being a factor. I was just stating I think in general whether it be Holmes or anyone else in the state playing in the state championship, we'd see the two teams best if given an extra night of rest.

Your comment about 2 fresh teams implies that you feel that 2 Saturday games leads to fatigue. Neither one of those teams Saturday night was tired.

High schoolers should be able to handle 4 games in 72 hours (Holmes) or 4 games in 48 hours (Mason County). My understanding is that practice is often much tougher than games.

That being said, I would think that where you would see fatigue is in three-point shooting; the legs are starting to go. Mason was 1-6, Holmes 4-16.

Stock Up: Mountain schools -- two mountain schools advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in six years

Stock Down: Western Kentucky schools -- Not a good week at Rupp, except for Owensboro

Stock up: Brock Moorman -- Not a lot of people had heard of him and he showed he has game

Stock Down: Scotty Hopson -- Everyone has heard of him and he showed he sometimes has game

Stock Up: Northern Kentucky schools -- Holmes and Mason County made nice long runs in the tourney

Stock Down: Louisville schools - Both of them lost in the first round for the first time in a dozen years

Stock Up: Kudos to small schools Paintsville, Hazard, and Elliott County for making valiant efforts at the state tourney

Stock Down: 27 of the last 28 schools to advance to the state semifinals have been large schools. UHA is the only small school to make the semifinals in the last seven years

Stock Up: Holmes

Stock Down: UHA

Stock Up: Interest at the Sweet 16 with Kentucky losing on the first day of the tournament

Stock Down: 16 baseball teams who will begin their season Monday without the chance to have their basketball kids practice.

This one is perfect.

I will throw in stock up for the sophomore class at Holmes.

Actually, both Corbin and South Laurel (both considered mountain schools) reached the quarterfinals in 2005.

Yeah. I sometimes struggle classifying them as a true mountain school, especially South and North Laurel. But yes, they did make it three years ago.

Stock down: Scotty H. Does not move with out the ball on offense. Very good getting to the hole with the ball in is hands, but no movement without. I was least impressed with his defense. Can't count how many times he was the last man down the court. Being as tall as he is, did not attempt to block any shots in the paint. JMO, was fairly lazy on the defensive end. With that said, he will be an impact player at the next level.

Nice idea, and way to give the thread a nice start.:thumb: You touched all the bases on the tourny, except for giving us a thumbs up and down for eateries.

Good thread and good post to start it. I'll offer mine tommorrow.

Thumbs Up:

Sawyers - great burgers

DeSha's - great pork chops

BW3's - great Carribean Jerk sauce

Hooters - who cares about the food

Malones - great steaks

Krispy Kream - but only when the HOT sign is on

Thumbs Down:

Concession Stands at Rupp - weak pizza and blah hot dogs...

Yes, Plato does take requests:thumb:

Each time I went to Sawyer's and DeSha's the line and wait was ridiculous. I only go to those two places before or after a game and it was just ridiculous.

stock up:

I can think of three players that weren't on a lot of coaches playdar (player radar;) ) before the tournament will get some serious looks now and a very valuable 41 cent stamp from some of the local universities.

stock down:

attendance. the girl's state tournament game set a new record this year in attendance and was solid all week. From my understanding with the exception of a few games, this tournament attendance was not very great.

officiating. Paintsville vs. Holmes, horrid officiating and then two of the officials from that game making most of the calls, were calling the championship game! Unbelievable. :D

The bands. Where were the numbers? Scott Co.'s band last year took up most of the student section. This year I saw a band composed of only drums and xylophones one game.

Yeah that was really annoying! Im a big Sawyer's fan, but Ive never been to Desha's before.

They did catch up with Tilghman once they got to Rupp.
