If you don't think Setty being suspended would not have made a difference your crazy. I only saw Mason go seven deep and there was a definte let down for them when the two reserves were on the floor. Setty's size and length helped to make it difficult for Holmes to score even though he did not score well he helped make a difference. On a side note why do officials calling games involving UK to be players get cought up in the hype of the players? I sat behind Mason's bench close enough to the floor to see very well. Several times during the second half Miller was stripped clean by Holmes defenders and fouls were called and Holmes defenders were playing him straight up not trying to block his shots and fouls were called on those shots also giving him chances at three point plays. Also on the defensive side of the ball he clearly got away with two or three fouls that were never called. After a first early foul I looked at my buddy and said that's his last foul for a while and low and behold his second occured late in the fourth and I was not sure it was a foul. When it occured there were two older gentlemen sitting in front of me they looked at each other and said, I quote "that should of have been his fourth" they were not rooting for anyone and seemed very unbiased the whole game. Officials get over the hype of UK players to be and The UK coach setting in the front row. Call it straight up for the other nine players on the court with them. Miller is a great player he does not need your help to be great.

PLEASE tell us the facts then! Did Setty not enter the court as part of bench personnel? Was there not a potential for a fight? PLEASE tell everyone what happened.

That means Trevor Setty is a great teammate. Although he entered the playing floor, one could assume that he wasnt going to start a fight, rather to make sure his teammate was ok. From what I have seen from Trevor this year on the basketball court, he isnt looking to cause trouble.

 

Some claim that Holmes is the victim, but I think the victim is Trevor and his family. Being given 6 hours to prepare mentally for the biggest game of your life, and then learning 1 hour before the game that you arent playing, must have been devastating. I wasnt able to talk to the family before the game, but from what I heard throughout the stadium, they were taking the situation hard. It was wrong for the KHSAA to declare a ruling before all the facts were straight.

 

But Im not looking to blame the KHSAA in this situation or anyone for that matter. If the officials felt Trevor was out of hand then they should have ejected him from the semi-final game. Without being ejected, I dont see how you could say he is unable to play in the following game.

 

One could assume what might have happened, but we will never know. Im glad Trevor got to play, and I felt it was the correct decision. Congrats to Trevor on a great high school career, a state championship ring, memories for a lifetime, and good luck wherever you decide to continue to play.

 

 

After Mason beat Elliott, I loved the front page picture of him....by the way, those that were there know, that picture was taken after he hit a 3 and then was pointing at the Elliott County Fan Section....taunting...he is truely a class act and deserving of a KHSAA award!

And did you see what went on during the Paintsville Holmes game? Did you not think that some of that was "unbelievably bad."

 

On a side note, in general I think some kids need to get over the whole "not dunking on us" thing because somebody is going to hurt someone. Anytime a team gets a kid in the open court that has hops he has to worry about being undercut or clobbered while he is going up...

At the time Setty left the bench, however, it wasn't clear whether or not there would be a fight or some sort of confrontation. The officials certainly reacted as if they thought there would be one, and properly so.

 

It's clear he let his emotions get the best of him when he left the bench in defense of his player. Any kid this day and time can't let that happen that's why fights do occur. With that being said the KHSAA needs to get some clarification on this rule so in the future there is no contraversy when a kid leaves the bench area.

 

I do know this - Coach Henley would not have wanted to win a state title with Mason without all of their players over an issue such as this. Then all would of said it was tainted title for Holmes if they would have beaten Mason without Setty. He (Henley) is a class act, and if he would have won last night, or wins a title in the future, he will want to win beating the best and not backing into a title.

 

Side Note to the Setty family: don't try and spin this as something it was not he let his emtions get the best of him as alot of young men in his situation do. He didn't committ a crime he simply was caught up in the heat of the moment and he will learn from this for the future. Don't side step the issue, admit your mistake and thank the KHSAA for using fair judgement is this situation.

No need to "Taint" Mason County's title for the best team won the game. I am not saying the game deserves an asterisk beside it. I am clearly saying rules are rules and we don't fudge them for anyone. If you do, why have them?

Riverrat - You are right.... unfortunately for Mason, their title will always have an asterisk in front of it for most of the non-Mason fans. It's a shame. KHSAA needs to clarify their rules and stick to it.

 

It is not OK to make and exception because it is "the biggest game of Setty's life" or because it is the championship game. Should Scott County or the KHSAA have let Mackey play this year? How many really good impact players were not on teams this year, because of grades or other issues? Should we make exceptions?

 

I was rooting for Mason. But I am also about the rules.

 

Again, this will be debated for a long time.

Im saying that a player getting off the bench and walking to the scorers table crossing over the out-of-bounds line. While the player is walking, he could be talking to a coach, not paying much attention to the game at that point, stepping a few feet on the floor, and being in the court of play. While talking to the coach , the ball could be stollen and pushed up the sideline where the player might interfere with the ball or another player therefore causing controversy. It doesnt have anything to do with fighting, Im just asking if he should be given a technical for being on the court? He had no intention of causing problems, but he did.

The two situations aren't remotely comparable.

I was there for both games on Saturday. It was an unfortunate situation. But this is one rule that has been emphasized a lot. I am sure Setty knew the rule before jumping off the bench and stepping onto the court. He was pretty frustrated during Saturday's game. I think he had missed a lot of shots, and was sitting on the bench a lot in the 2nd half. So his emotions go the best of him, and it could have potentially cost Mason County their title.

 

Would have to see all the rules before making a determination in my mind.

 

Either way they ruled, there would have been controversy. Many will argue that Mason's title is not legitimate. Which is unfortunate for everyone, especially Mason County.

 

Those of us who are basketball junkies will debate things like this forever. I saw on a forum here Saturday, someone claiming a bad call cost some team a title back in 1978 or something! We have long memories don't we?

 

I would guess the KHSAA will get a lot more questions about this issue the upcoming week. They may have to come out and further explain their decision making progress.

 

Suspending and then reinstating at the last moment, leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
