Maybe, probably actually. But from where I sit, this becomes another issue of the KHSAA not enforcing, or worse yet, changing their own rules as they go along.

 

Mason was the better team in the finals, and Setty wasn't a huge factor on paper. IMO this isn't the issue however.

 

My issue is with the KHSAA again dropping the ball. There were a lot of good teams, players, and coaches, in the Sweet 16 again. Seems to me the only ones who couldn't do their job was again the KHSAA.

I wish we could stop seeing so much complaining from some Holmes fans. Mason was the better team tonight and that's what matters, end of story.

So my question, "Will all players that leave the bench next year and years to follow NOT be ejected?" I would not be surprised to see the KHSAA change the rule. Now parents of athletes that get ejected for this same reason have a landmark case that they can use against the KHSAA. Another very public example that they (3 refs, which are supposed to be the BEST in the state, and KHSAA) do not follow their own rules. The KHSAA needs a system of checks and balances.

He's from the 11th region. I don't believe that he is a Holmes fan. Maybe a Mason anti-fan.

Mason County’s coaches were told just before 7 p.m. that Setty had been suspended for the finals because of his conduct in the Royals’ semifinals win over Shelby County. With 36.8 seconds left in that game, Mason County’s Ethan King was going in for a layup when he took an intentional foul from the Rockets’ Donovan Johnson. Setty, who was not in the game at that time, came off the bench and was several feet on the court before he was pulled back by a teammate. The referees huddled and decided not to disqualify Setty from the game. Later, however, KHSAA officials decided Setty should have to sit out the finals for leaving the bench. But upon further review, the KHSAA decided that a fight was not going to ensue, and Setty was cleared to play just before the team took the court for warmups."

 

I for one am glad that he got to play. There were quite a few dirty fouls this year on fast breaks. The kid is what, 17? As a 17 year old, and having watched people get taken out time and again down there, I may have gotten off the bench. He didn't persist in his effort to get on the court, he was held back and sat down. I believe it was instinctively to protect his teammate. I'm glad that he got to play in the biggest game of his life, so far.

I'm with Mexitucky. I'm glad that they let the kid play.

 

I wasn't there to see what happened with the technical, but I think that they got this one right. It is the state championship game, he didn't get into a fight, he probably just reacted on instinct, and didn't make it very far anyway. Holmes should have nothing to complain about. Also, If I was a player for Holmes, then I would have wanted to beat Mason at full strength.

In my opinion, they finally got one right. Glad he played, and got to enjoy the great feeling it must be to be a State Champion. Mason may of won without him, but he would of had to live knowing, that he didn't get to play in the biggest game of his life. And if they would of lost without him, he would blame his self. No way did he do anything that bad...Can't even believe they almost sat him.

 

 

That's the intention of a punishment. You can't deter behavior if you don't take away something someone really wants!

But what's done is done, and with the way Holmes played much of the night, I think I agree that Mason would have won without him.

If it's the rule it should be enforced. Sends a bad message to the kids if it's not enforced.

Holmes probably received as many flagrant fouls in the tournament as all other teams combined, yet none of their players left the bench.

 

Why have rules if they are not consistently enforced? They are then nothing more than suggestions.

I generally disagree with those that complain about the KHSAA's "uneven application of the rules," as you state it, but in this case I think the concerns are valid.

 

I would like to know which KHSAA official made the decision, and their rationale for it.
