Arrez Henderson

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. All I'm saying is if Henderson is shutting down these big time D1 guards (Profitt, Sanford) why couldn't he play at the mid D1 level like those two? Once again, he ISN"T an offensive player but he can be when his team needs him. (21 points in yesterday's second half)

Also Stewart and Novosel were in foul trouble because of Holmes penetration (R. Johnson and Henderson). Anyone who has seen Henderson EVERY game this year knows he isn't much of a scorer, but with that being said, he still quietly leads Holmes in scoring at 17 a game.

He can be an offensive player, but not the type that would be a solid D1 guard. He isnt a good shooter and he doesnt get by people off the bounce. Most good D1 guards can do one of the two. Because of Holmes size he gets a smaller defender on him game in and game out and he can take them down low with his leaping ability, strength, and length and score on them. He is a good high school player, but I dont see the D1 in him.

Proffitt created a lot off the dribble. He wasnt super quick, but he was deceptive and had a great handle. He could get in the lane and get other people shots and had that nice pull up J. He could also knock the trey with consistency. Sanford is an all around great player. He is a very good defender, quick, and gets his hands all over the ball. I said in the game thread he probably got his hands on the ball about 20 times through steals, deflections, etc. in the UHA game. That is no exaggeration. He is quick with the ball, can get in the lane and finish and is also a pretty good shooter and this kid is only a junior.

I have seen A LOT of ball at all levels, and I dont think Henderson has really shown any reason that would say he will be a very good D1 guard. He can go to that low level of D1, but he will never be more than a defensive guy off the bench.

A double double isn't exactly being shut down. (10 points 11 boards). Pittman had the hot hand so everyone knew who to go to.

Shuting down has nothing to do with rebounds, it's creating off the dribble and getting open. I was there. Arez could not shake him. He was 3 for 7 and it was painful to watch him create off the dribble with Tribble guarding him. His patented spin move with a finger roll layup did not happen one time today. If Tribble could do that to him, what could a D1 guard do. No one recruits a player for just defense at that level. He's DII all the way.

Your right ER. It shocks me what some actually think, and then actually say it.

1. Henderson isn't a good shooter but yet he's a career 60 percent from the field and averages 17 a game?

2. How many times have you seen Arrez play? He has had probably 15-20 dunks this year where he blew by his man and dunked in a crowd. I'd say that's getting by off the bounce. Also Very rarely does he guard or have someone smaller on him. Henderson usually guards a bigger player and that's who guards him at the other end.

3. I guess Sanford is only good at doing those things when he isn't playing against Henderson? :sssh: If Henderson isn't a D1 guard then Sanford has a long way to go since he'll be seeing kids much better than a D2 Player like Henderson. (note the sarcasm).

I'm not saying Henderson is going to be a superstar at the D1 level. He will be a role player who starts wherever he goes because he is smart offensively, taking high percentage shots and plays excellent defense. But seriously to say he isn't a D1 guard whether it be small or mid major is quite comical.

Note almost all of the spots where I talk about him playing D1, I mention with "good", "solid", etc in front of them. He can probably be somewhere on the D1 level at a smaller school. I have said repeatedly he isnt going to start and he has a long way to go on his offense. If he is willing to work and have coaches that will work him extensively on his handle, shot, and first step then he could play there one day.

Basically, what I am getting at is he has not lived up to the hype you guys have given him all year on here.

I am not saying Henderson can't play somewhere better, but he would be a great player at Georgetown College! He would fit in perfectly with the team they have this year.

I could also see him somewhere possibly like WKU or EKU.

I don't know what anyone thinking that Arrez was shut down today is talking about. And to say he never took anyone off the dribble ain't exactly right either...

Have you watched him all week? I have. Maybe its a bad week or as GT mentioned to me earlier, maybe he is very tuned in on his D and is losing his aggressiveness on the other end, but he has just not shown a lot to me in regards to his ballhandling, penetration, and outside shooting. Not having a good shot from the outside is all fine and good, but you better have some quickness with the ball if you cant shoot the ball. He has mishandled the ball a lot. He doesnt always turn it over, but there have been many times he has batted it around under pressure and him or another Holmes player picks it up. He might get a drive a game, but with the way you guys built him up I would expect a little more than that, especially when the other guys around him are playing so well.

Arrez is the kind of player who gets the rebound, loose ball, jump shot, steal and assist when it is needed the most. A very clutch player. A leader. An extension of Coach Henley on the floor. He cuts down a mean net to boot...stay tuned.

In addition, he's a player that any high school would want on their team and would start on that team. Not necessarily any college though.

Henderson is a great player and even a greater young man. To say the least, he has kept his composure on the floor unlike the players he has shut down. BELL 40; his nickname is now the ERASER. Keep erasing Arrez and bring home the title to NKY.

As a matter of fact I have watched him all week. What I see is a guy that does what he needs to do when his team needs him to. I don't recall all those times of him fumbling it around, other than maybe some today against LexCath's press, which everyone on Holmes team did at some point. Maybe he's not ready for the And 1 mix tape with his handles, but he does what he needs to do. Same way with his dribble penetration. When he needed to go get a bucket, he got one, and a lot of times it was tough shots with 2 defenders. Now I'm not saying that he is an all star offensive player, and I think that there are at least 2 guys that you would want to score more points for Holmes. I don't think you are giving him enough credit for his ball handling ability. If they needed him to I think he could run the point.

I think too much is being put on Henderson's offense. It doesn't take an offensive superstar to play D1. There are more aspects to it than offense. Henderson is a defensive specialist who is solid on the offensive end. Having all those other offensive threats around him, he doen't need to put up 25 a game for his team to win but he still averages 17 by doing the little things.

When your star, Henderson, can score 6 points and your team still win by 20 (Bardstown), or score 10 and still win in the state semi's against the #1 team in the state, that speaks volumes of how good his supporting cast is. Also, he showed in the quarters he can take over if need be. (21 points in the second half)

The average offensive output from the guys he has guarded in the past 3 games: 10.3 PPG... Keep in mind these are the best offensive players these teams have to offer.
