Ok UK fans defend this one...

Without reading ahead, I will take a swipe at this beach ball.

Let's see LSU and Florida in back to back weeks on the stand alone CBS game with ESPN Gameday in Lexington, then they closed with Tennessee on CBS. Three stand alone games on one of the three major networks.

ESPN for USC and Arkansas, along with the Bowl Game, UL on the ESPN Classic.

Regional for UGa.

Arkansas was on ESPN2.

It's got nothing to do with Brooks here. It's about the Admin playing games with getting to the end result with less resistance. I think Brooks has done a fine job in a very tough situation. With that said, to ever rise above 8 wins, recruiting still has a long way to go...

This is a very fair answer. Very well said GT. Brooks has done a very fine job and I don't think he's afraid to play UL on a national stage at this point. With that said at least now UK is fighting for recruits with SEC teams instead of with MAC or 1-AA teams. That is a definate improvement and the rewards have been seen on the field. As a HUGE UK supporter I do have to ask: Who's decision is this, Brooks or Barnhart? If it is Brooks, I don't really agree but he's earned the benefit of the doubt. If it is in fact, Barnhart, well Mitch you don't have to take up for your coach. He's done pretty good so far.

What's best is getting ready for Norfolk State over a MNF ESPN slot against your rival? We'll have to agree to disagree.

As for the ESPN stuff, you don't hear that from me...

Not talking about you in particular with the ESPN stuff. Just find it ironic how hypocritical many people are (no one in particular, so don't get your panties all bunched up.)

And what's best for The University of Kentucky is beating Louisville & then beating Norfolk State the next week. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the BCS doesn't take into consideration the # of games played on national TV, right? If I'm mistaken (and I'm not), then Kentucky is making a whale of a mistake by not playing this one on Monday.

UK being 10th in the conference in recruiting, despite the strides that have been made, says that they're still in the "Play Anybody, Anywhere, Anytime" frame of mind to gain exposure if they want to take the next step. It has worked for many teams in college football (UL was one) and college basketball.

If he really believes an extra day for Norfolk State is more important than the MNF Labor Day slot, I grossly underestimated the man running UK athletics...

I'm sure he went to Brooks and asked him what he wanted to do.

More likely Brooks's decision than Barnhart.

Don't forget UL was telling recruits late in the year that Brooks was retiring and that he would not be there for them...there was some negative recruiting going on against UK.

I think the UK contingent is being to quick to villify GT. I think the whole, Sunday vs. Monday thing is overblown. (Because honestly, last season GT you yourself said that Sunday was a huge benefit for UK--so honestly, what would it be this season: a just a hair below huge? Last season Sunday was the plum, compared to 3 weeks in. This season it is only marginally worse than Monday--be honest. However, if it is the Athletic Director acting on his own whims. Which, I have a sneaking suspicion that it is, then it is way wrong. After Petrino left UL football is not head and shoulders above UK football and UK should not be afraid to play them on a national stage. I really don't think that a 60 something head coach with an all-time losing record is afraid of getting embarassed by the Louisville Cardinals football program so I'm going to write this of to Mitch Barnhart's arrogance. If that is the case then it is time to bid him good-bye. He's hired some good coaches but I think he thinks he is beyond being questioned. He should be done.

I'm sure he went to Brooks and asked him what he wanted to do.

I would hope that is the case. And if so, I have absolutely no problem with what is going on. If this is strictly Barnhart's decision, then I think Brooks needs to step up.

So you think it does have 5th grade spit ball fight behavior involved. I'll be sure to put you on that list.

Coaches say mean things about other schools on the recruiting trail? Oh the horror...

To be fair UK did defeat the National Champs last season. That much is indisputable. UK might not have been a BCS team but they did have enough talent to compete on a BCS level in--and I think you even admitted this one--the best conference in the country.

What if UK gets blown out by UL? I don't think that will happen, but a loss on national tv does not help. Look at basketball where UK lost on national tv to Vandy badly. UK has had a great run in conference play, but that 1 loss really set the team way back. And look at what Appalachian St. did to Michigan. A loss to a smaller school can be disastarous.

I don't think that I mentioned UC in this thread. However, I deeply respect what their staffs have done. Let's face it though, middle of the road teams are better than what UK fans are used to and Brooks and company have done a very good job at UK--and Joker is a BIG part of that. Do you disagree? Is Joker only mediocre--again, I only as for an honest answer. As for you FC, middle of the pack in the SEC is better than average. Again, I'm going to say if this is Brooks' call I support him and if Barnhart is trying to prove a point I'm against it. Am I wrong in that? Hasn't Brooks earned the benefit of the doubt?

Ok I am not claiming to be the smartest person on the face of the earth. However I am pretty sure if you have a certain number of teams, and you are right in the the middle of it. That would mean you are average, you are not great, but not terrible either. So I stand by what I said that would still just make us where we are at in the SEC, and that is just average. And from the looks of things a lot of you all are just content and happy to be just average. Yeah I mean its a big improvement from where we were at, but why just settle for average now? We need to keep building on this, and try to get above just average in the SEC.

People say well its impossible to out recruit the other schools, and I say why? I mean people use to think the same thing in basketball, but people have found ways to recruit with us in basketball. Once you have success you have got to keep building on that, and getting exposure like that would help out a lot. Kids seeing us on National TV on the big stage like that on monday night would help a little bit in drawing kids here. I mean success is also going to help, but kids thinking that they will get to be on National TV will also help sell them in coming here. I just have higher hopes for the UK program than just being average.

I won't say anything else besides the fact that this is really frustrating.:irked:

The biggest obstacle that UK faces in recruiting is that the state does not really produce a large number of 3,4, and star players, outside of Jefferson County.

Every other state in SEC Country produces a mass number of highly rated prospects. Look at all of the major in-state recruits that MSU got just from inside the Magnolia State.

Winning will trump exposure. The staff has done a very good job of identifying players below the radar and developing them. Who would of thought that a kid like Wesley Woodyard, then a 2 star recruit, tuen into a first team All-SEC performer and go on to the combine and drop a 4.4 on scouts.
