Ok UK fans defend this one...

When UK rises above 10th in SEC recruiting rankings, I'll stop. There is a reason they can't recruit like a top flight SEC school, and it has everything to do with perception...

Take a look at the 2008 Team rankings from Rivals.

#1 - Alabama

#3 - Florida

#6 - Georgia

#11 - LSU

#20 - Auburn

#22 - South Carolina

#35 - Tennessee

#36 - Arkansas

#44 - Mississippi St.

#55 - Louisville

#57 - Kentucky

The reason why Kentucky can't crack the top 10 in recruiting rankings is because the SEC pretty much dominates the recruiting rankings. I'd be very happy with a top 50 recruiting class each year on the gridiron.

You got that right... :sssh:

Maybe they could settle for outrecruiting South Carolina or Mississippi State.

Yes, I would settle for outrecruiting the school with a top 25 recruiting class. Man, that'd be terrible. :irked:

This is the same time slot that Miami and Florida State have been playing in for the past three years. Just saying.

FSU and Miami opening up season with each other anymore?

Would be kind of neat, but no biggie. Can understand UK's reasoning.

UL will play it up in the media, like they usually do, but that is OK...

To gain serious national exposure. Oh nevermind...

I think that argument is out the window....

If you are happy with a 50th ranked class every year, UK football will always stay the same. Quit making excuses, play the crooked game, and get better.

I think that's what bothers me most about this issue. It's not about being the best for UK football. It's all about not being the worst. Yuck...

. They accepted an ESPN Thursday night slot last year to play South Carolina--so they're more worried about Norfolk State than South Carolina?

I think that was South Carolina's call only, not sure, but also UK wasn't as young last year.

What will it really do? The majority of UK's success comes from instate recruits. Maybe they steal another player or two from Trinity or St X? The state itself gets to watch them play weekly. UK could play each game on Monday night and would not take hardly any key recruits from other SEC teams. UK is in a very difficult position to recruit being in the SEC which is only getting stronger.

If UK wants to help recruiting immediately they should play a few games in Ohio each year.

I see nothing wrong with that explanation at all. A Monday night game leaves no room for preparation when you play again on Saturday.

Norfolk State.....it's about exposure for both these teams, IMO...and this hurts that.

Once again, UK is not hurting for exposure. The viewing audience is not going to be that much of a difference from Saturday or Sunday to Monday.

How many was it and were they national or regional broadcasts....

Without reading ahead, I will take a swipe at this beach ball.

Let's see LSU and Florida in back to back weeks on the stand alone CBS game with ESPN Gameday in Lexington, then they closed with Tennessee on CBS. Three stand alone games on one of the three major networks.

ESPN for USC and Arkansas, along with the Bowl Game, UL on the ESPN Classic.

Regional for UGa.

Where in the world did I make an excuse? Don't confuse facts with excuses.

I would like to see Kentucky play the game on ESPN. I love it when they play on ESPN; however, how can you blame a team for wanting to play it on the day that gives them the best opportunity to win?

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that people rip on ESPN / SportsCenter for what they have done to sports, but then rip on the school when they don't abide but ESPN's requests?

^ When you get a shot at THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN, so to speak, you should jump on it. It can only help.

Thanks. I wasn't sure, and that's why I asked...

What's best is getting ready for Norfolk State over a MNF ESPN slot against your rival? We'll have to agree to disagree.

As for the ESPN stuff, you don't hear that from me...

I love Mitch Barnhardt! Its awesome that he does whatever he believes is best regardless of what others think. Like with Rich Brooks and Billy Gillispie. People have criticized those decisions, but guess what, he got it right. And I absolutely love how mad some of you people on the board gets at him!

“We’re willing to play that game Thursday through Sunday, and we’ve communicated that to the people at ESPN,” Barnhart said. “We’re not going to play that on a Monday night and give ourselves that short turnaround on a Saturday game. We’re going to have a young team, and we feel it’s in the best interest of our program to guard that prep time and that recovery time.”

Thats what really matters in all of this.
