February 26, 200818 yr UK doesn't have any Thursday night games either next year. Barnhart stated he didn't want to have any short weeks with UK being a young team next year. I have no problem with that. Barnhart's job is to do what he feels is in the best interest of UK sports, and he is doing that. UK has been a young team for about 6 years now. How long do they get to use that excuse?
February 26, 200818 yr The biggest obstacle that UK faces in recruiting is that the state does not really produce a large number of 3,4, and star players, outside of Jefferson County. Every other state in SEC Country produces a mass number of highly rated prospects. Look at all of the major in-state recruits that MSU got just from inside the Magnolia State. And to increase recruiting outside the state you need...............wait for it........ More national exposure. Funny how things come full circle sometimes...
February 26, 200818 yr Ok I am not claiming to be the smartest person on the face of the earth. However I am pretty sure if you have a certain number of teams, and you are right in the the middle of it. That would mean you are average, you are not great, but not terrible either. So I stand by what I said that would still just make us where we are at in the SEC, and that is just average. And from the looks of things a lot of you all are just content and happy to be just average. Yeah I mean its a big improvement from where we were at, but why just settle for average now? We need to keep building on this, and try to get above just average in the SEC. People say well its impossible to out recruit the other schools, and I say why? I mean people use to think the same thing in basketball, but people have found ways to recruit with us in basketball. Once you have success you have got to keep building on that, and getting exposure like that would help out a lot. Kids seeing us on National TV on the big stage like that on monday night would help a little bit in drawing kids here. I mean success is also going to help, but kids thinking that they will get to be on National TV will also help sell them in coming here. I just have higher hopes for the UK program than just being average. First of all unless you have been living in a gopher hole the last 3 decades then average is a heck of an improvement. As for your basketball vs. football arguments that is just bogus. Be honest, you know that you can be a top 10 team with 3 great basketball players. That doesn't wash in football. Basketball and football are not, no matter how you want to spin it, the same animal. Just being average is a huge improvement. Like I said, if this is Barnhart on a power trip then he should shut up. However, if Brooks feels like this is what needs to be and he didn't agree to it earlier than I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt. Or would you just rather get rid of the whole staff FC and coach them yourself?
February 26, 200818 yr Winning trumps exposure chief. You win, exposure will come. What if they decide to play on Sunday night in the only game being broadcast that night? Does it change anything?
February 26, 200818 yr UK has been a young team for about 6 years now. How long do they get to use that excuse? They didn't need it last season........:sssh: Weak argument AT. But to borrow your response form the public/private debate. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it might be.
February 26, 200818 yr I disagree. UK will never out recruit Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee or LSU, and playing Louisville on ESPN Classic instead of ESPN is not going to push them over the top against the other schools. If you're willing to accept mediocrity...
February 26, 200818 yr They didn't need it last season........:sssh: Weak argument AT. But to borrow your response form the public/private debate. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it might be. And yet here we are again.

Chief? Puh-LEASE! You don't win and you are a nothing again. 50/50 coin flip and maybe worse with a roster full of 2 and 3 * recruits. Strike while the iron is hot, or once again go away. The Sunday mid to late afternoon spot is also a very good one. Does ESPN already have it slotted? Sunday night? Not so much. One is a slight step down, the other is not as good at all...
Winning will trump exposure. The staff has done a very good job of identifying players below the radar and developing them. Who would of thought that a kid like Wesley Woodyard, then a 2 star recruit, tuen into a first team All-SEC performer and go on to the combine and drop a 4.4 on scouts. And what happens if some of the players they get don't develop. I mean this graduating senior class was a great class that the coaches developed very nicely. However that does not mean at all that every class will do that. I mean even with how we did, we still only finished middle of the pack in the SEC. So I mean if these guys just develop just even a little worse than the graduating seniors, then we are back in the basement. If your going to try to build a top football program from the bottom, you got to be able to develop players at first. Then when that special class comes along, and really does well you have to move on it. Right now this senior class did great things UK. It got UK some recognition now, so that is why we should be trying to capitalize on that. We should be trying to do what we can now, to be getting even better recruits here, instead of just settling for getting the 2 and 3 stars guys, and wishing that they develop good. If we keep with this philosphy we will be back to the bottom, and at best middle of the pack like we were this year in the SEC.
February 26, 200818 yr And yet here we are again. So I ask you for a response. Although I know you won't give me one because that is just your way. How badly did UK need to play that game on opening weekend to have a successful season? Were the Wildcats hurt or did the staff do what is best? Who came out ahead? Go ahead, you can answer honestly, we already know.
February 26, 200818 yr If you're willing to accept mediocrity... Like 6-6 with a preseason top 10 ranking?

February 26, 200818 yr BCS!!! Wait.........   Getting there......................     Sorry. Can't stop................................................       Great post man. Care to share what's so funny with the rest of us earthlings?
February 26, 200818 yr Great post man. Care to share what's so funny with the rest of us earthlings? UK and BCS in the same thought. Really hysterical. Sorry you missed it...

Or would you just rather get rid of the whole staff FC and coach them yourself? Hmmm and your point is? I mean I definitely remember saying that average was an improvement from where we had been. So I don't know why you are telling me what I said. Then the football vs. basketball thing is not bogus at all for what I was talking about. Someone said before that we would never be able to out recruit the top schools in the SEC. I simply said people use to say the same thing about us in basketball. That no team would ever be able to out recruit us in basketball and get better players in over us, yet that has happened. So that point was not bogus at all. Also nice little attack there at the end of your post my man. I never said anywhere about getting rid of the coaching staff did I? However to answer your question, of coarse I would love to coach them. Which I think most people on here would like to do the same.
