Somerset had several freshmen get quality playing time this past year and even some starts. The top two to watch for next year are...

Derrick Jackson RB/LB Went 75 yards to the house on his first highschool carry and around 40 or so tackles last year.

JP Henderlight CB/WR Led team in Int's last year and can be a big time weapon at WR.

 

However there are 11 others that have the ability to really contribute next year. This class may not have the star power of some of the others at SHS but top to bottom could be as strong as any ever Somerset.

They had 45 or so on the team correct? If half of them play on, then they will have a good class...numbers wise! A lot of development can happen here. Kids starting...even playing as sophs at HHS is a rarity. MOST Bluebirds are made with inspiration and perspiration!

 

I agree they will find the kids in this class who want to commit and stick it out and get rid of the ones that don't. Next year's soph class at Highlands though will struggle. I hope a lot of juniors are cool with playing JV.

Does this mean that HHS could be looking at a bit of a rough year when this group are seniors in a few years?

I think that they are going to need some underclassmen to definitely be ready for Varsity ball when nxt yr's Sophs become Seniors. However, you never know who will blossom, work hard over the next couple years and turn some heads. You never know what could happen over 3 yrs.

 

I just dont see anybody standing out as a soph next year at Highlands and making an impact like Roller/Collinsworth did this season.

The young Hahn boy would be the closest to being able to contribute. Let's see how B-S-F these guys can get in the off season. (is there an off-season?) lol

If I remember correctly Sullivan played alot of jv at the end of the year as a frosh...If he can keep his on straight and stay out of trouble I think he could be a good one...A big "IF" though...

Tre Powell of Ft. Campbell could have another big year. Didn't play rb alot until late in the season but averaged over 10 yards per carry this year as a freshman.

Alex Abner will be a another weapon added to the Maroons group of great skill players. He had a lot of big hits and caused several turnovers as well as scoring both running and receiving. PC is looking for him to contribute big time this year.

Agreed. With a good senior and junior class (which is very deep) next year, I doubt you'll see many sophomores getting much varsity time next year. Scuttle butt is that a couple of juniors to be that didn't play football last year may play this year (don't ask who, its a secret ). Having said that, you never know what will happen. If some seniors and juniors slack off (which is highly unlikely to happen) and some sophomores kick butt this off season conditioning wise, then perhaps some sophomores could get playing time. But again, I think that is unlikely. I do know this: Dale doesn't care what class you are in or even if you are a returning starter. If someone else is better at the position, that kid plays.

Too early to tell. Its a long time before these kids become seniors and a lot can happen before then. I've seen way too many unimpressive freshmen (and sophomores for that matter) become very good players as seniors. And there are a lot of good athletes in the current frosh class. Its like every other class at Highlands: will they be willing to put forth the time and effort needed to be state champs? If so, they'll be more than fine as seniors.

I'd like to think that a couple of Sr's to be will decide to commit and come out for their last chance at football. A certain former Noseman and Punter/LB could help out next year...more for their concern than the team. The team will be "just fine" without them. I'd just like to see them play and not have later regrets! Tell the JR's to be to come on out...we need more "redshirts" !
