Cov Cath dressed four freshman last year for varsity. Of those four, not one has made a major contribution:

Leo Schaffer - Tore labrum 3rd day of two-a-days. Was projected to be one of the starting OLBs at the beginning of the season.

Mitchell Wendling - Tore ACL and two menisci 30 minutes into first two-a-days. Wendling was projected to get a great deal of varsity PT after showing treamendous work ethic in the off-season, missing only two workouts between November-July.

Will Torbeck - Had a bad knee during spring ball and summer practices. Played with injury for most of the season. Started against Highlands. Tore PCL during Beechwood game.

Mark Jones - Has never gotten any reps due to the number of seniors listed at his position (DE).

Impressive. CCH doesn't dress many freshman for varsity.

Any Mason county young players getting big on the line, I know they graduated virtually all the starting line.

 

Alex Newton is gettin bigger everyday; also Matt Eads. They both get plenty of reps now on varsity. Also Blake Askin and Austin Berry who really dont get alot of playin time on the o-line but I see them to really make a difference for the Royals when they get older.

 

For the D-line you have Alex Newton who starts Defensive Tackle as a soph. Also you have Austin Berry who gets several Reps at Defensive End and I know he is gettin bigger and faster everyday.

 

Also some sophmores to make a difference for the Royals is Neal Pawsatt who already is the starting QB. Another is Johnathon Mcbride who gets plenty of reps at linebacker and fullback. Also Carson Grey, and Blake Askin should make a difference for Mason county Linebacker Core in the Future.

 

I Cant wait to see the Royals when all these guys are juniors and seniors.

Stayton, Geisen and Terry. None were standouts on JV, but they are working hard in the off season and seem to be improving alot. Stayton is smaller but has a nose for the ball, Geisen has good size but needs to work on his speed and Terry has put on about 20 lbs (now over 220) and deadlifted 335 on his max (he is not yet 16). So they are moving in the right direction and will play a role as they get deeper into the season. Depending on how the season goes, you may also see Frisch get a look on D Line. Anyway, the D Line is very deep and this group of upperclassmen seems to have a chip on their should after last season. Overall, the team as a whole has good size and the right attitude. Hopefully, Isler and Vansant will step up and be the leaders they seem to be. If so, it will be a good year for CovCath.

 

Did Terry's father play for the hapless Panthers during the 70s? If so, then I know he got his athletic ability from his mother!! :laugh:

CCH has only started a handful of sophomores this year. If I recall correctly:
