January 18, 200818 yr OTS has this Gophers team playing way over their heads. If they lose 10 more games then it's still a good season considering what they have in the twin cities.
January 18, 200818 yr Interesting comments I heard by the commentators in the short time I watched the game. They stated that this Minnesota team was expected to be good this year even before Tubby got the job. I think it was something along the lines of they knew they had good players returning who could score and who gained valuable experience last year. So, while they have probably exceeded expectations, the fact that they are winning games & being competitive is not a total shock.

January 18, 200818 yr Plus a comment of my own....I am just glad to see Tubby Smith relaxed, ENJOYING coaching again at a place where he is appreciated and that he is dong what he does best - coaching/teaching the game he loves and Winning! Tubby did look good and about 10 years younger.

Minnesota fought hard, but just couldn't get over the hump at the end.Aren't you the same guy who predicted a 25 point IU blowout? The rules don't allow Tubby to shoot free throws, or the Golden Gophers probably would have won last night. It is much easier for a coach to take a good program and run it into the ground than it is to inherit one like Minnesota and elevate it to where it is beating the "cream of the crop" consistently. Minnesota has a cream of the crop, top 5 coach and Tubby is a leading candidate for COY honors. Tubby is earning the big bucks that UM is paying him.

January 18, 200818 yr Tubby did look good and about 10 years younger. I was shocked at how he looked. He has taken care of the greying hair and it appears as if he has lost a few pounds. Most importantly, he looks like the wants to be coaching again.
January 18, 200818 yr Some of the things that I noticed that the commentators had said about Tubby tonight....... Tubby has Minnesota off to their best start since 1948. Tubby has been to 14 consecutive NCAA tourneys, only L. Olsen at Arizona has more. They stated that Tubby already had commitments from 5 recruits that would sure up his inside needs, including Ralph Sampson, Jr. and that Tubby as of now has a top 10 recruiting class coming in for next season.:thumb: (I hope that they "the recruits" didn't catch the temp in Minn. today.......2deg.!!!:eek:) Since Tubby's arrival........... January 18, 200818 yr They have beaten the teams that basically the same squad couldn't beat this year. And I don't see a single loss on their record along the lines of Gardner Webb or San Diego. Still waiting on a good team they have beaten. They had any major injuries or 7-8 OVC type players left over? Tubby is a good coach and will do well cause he hired a staff that will work. Why not bring Vince Taylor to UK? Why not take his great staff at UK with him? He left this place a mess is my main beef.
