I don't think guy would give up the 1 million dollar bonus he is getting from Baylor to coach in college again. Looks like he will coach BC to me.

If he goes to Boyle that would be 2 current head coaches in the state of Kentucky that have beaten Louisville, and 0 that have beaten UK.

He will get a small pay check but he will some benefits, like health insurance, etc. and it would get him off the farm some.

I think you seem to believe that everyone is after the prestige and the buck. Some people are in it for the kids and what they can do for them. Guy Morris strikes me as that kind of guy.

 

As for the money situation we are talking about a guy who was just bought out of a contract at Baylor for a hefty sum. He's been the head coach of 2 major universities and he played NFL football for about 10 years. My guess is that if anyone can make the monetary transition it is probably him.

 

If he comes think about what a kid might say. "What did you know?"

 

Coach Morris: "Well I was All-Pro in the NFL once, what have you done kid?"

 

 

 

He won't do it for the money. He may do it for some benefits. Health insurance, a place to call home and get off the farm.

 

In reality, Morriss had a short run at UK that was pretty successful. Baylor has been a disaster.

 

Barnhart didn't give him the big paycheck because he didn't deserve it. Baylor got a good coach, not a great one. He would be great for KY high school football. But, I personally see it as a distraction for Boyle Co. because he probably won't stay long enough to build a program.

 

Fact is, this will be a difficult transition. He has been used to large staffs with every coach being fully qualified.

Bobby and Howard might be in KY right now j/k . . .

 

That said, the CJ had an article basically inferring that it is all formality now.....pretty cool, I guess.

First of all you have forgotten what probation did to those 2 UK teams and still he he had a winning record and was one play away from being 8-4.

 

Baylor has never been a power in the SWC or the Big 12. They never will be. He was fired by Texas boosters (of the Baylor variety) that are delusional to believe in Baylor football.

 

No one believes Morris is a savior to Boyle. It is without a doubt an intriguing and interesting scenario to have a former NFL player and assistant and former Division 1 College College coach as your High School Football Head Man. Not many High Schools have that combo.

While this would be huge for Boyle County, I agree with some previous posters and think this would be even bigger for High School football in Kentucky. It COULD possibly serve to further ignite an interest in football across the state and improve participation/competition.

 

I totally agree. If nothing else it brings the media light into KHSAA football in general and Boyle County football in particular.

He may get the interest back of a lot of boys that chose not to play football last season. I heard that there are some good football players at Boyle county that have been watching from the stands. I think he'll at least bring a little excitement back to the table.

I agree with that thought. One of the great problems can be for tremendous athletes is the inability to accept what you have on a team you coach and adapting your coaching to their talent.

 

Time will tell. I for one am very excited to see where this goes. Will it replace the Chuck Smith era? NO. I don't think that will happen again at Boyle and maybe nowhere else. Will it create renewed excitement and invigorate a good program back to being a contender? Time will tell and that is what I'm hoping for. I can't think of any other coach (save maybe 1) that I would be this optimistic about coming in.

While this could be huge for football in this state and BC, it could also work against them. Joe Lee Dunn takes a job in Memphis this last year and things didn't go so well. Leaves after 1 year and the school left in worse shape.

If Morris is just taking it until he can return to the college level and that happens to be 1 year, will this be the best thing for BC.

You really don't know until it plays out.

 

Some things in Boyle's favor:

 

Morris is going to 57 this year. He is a laid back guy who might actually like being in charge of High School Football rather than the rigors of a college Head job. He could see this as a great way to end a career.

 

Morris is probably more financially sound than any high school coach in KY. He doesn't seem to like the lifestyle of a mansion and fast living. He seems to just like to be in small town America. It doesn't get much more small town image than Boyle. (Everyone sing "My Town" with Eddie and the gang :jump:)

 

He received a college education and played for TCU in the glory years of the SWC.

 

He played in the NFL for 14 seasons and two good programs in Philadelphia and New England. Also made Pro bowl and started in 1 Super Bowl and was a starter 10 times for another Super Bowl team.

 

Head Coach of UK for 2 years and Baylor for 4. (and all the financial earnings associated therein)

 

It might be he would like this to be where life takes him right now. For how long, who knows?

 

I just enjoy the ride while it's going and keep my hands and feet inside the car at all times. :thumb:

From the outside at least, it seemed the Boyle County football program had really lost a lot of wind from its sails since Smith left for UK... if they can get Morriss then I think the buzz about the program will definitely be back on an upward trajectory.
