Just got this thought from listening to some talk on the radio...

Clemens HAS to testify before Congress now, with the bold stance he is taking. But now, his lawyers file suit against McNamee. So, when he is before Congress, how many of the questions can he get out of by saying he can't answer because of pending lawsuits?

If this happens, give him credit it's much better than forgetting how to speak English, saying that you're not there to talk about the past, or waving your finger in our faces an promising that you "did not use steriods, period" only to test positive shortly thereafter.

 

Didn't I tell you that he had to have the best lawyers, agent and PR people in the country...

I didn't like the way that he looked down and away from the camera when he said that the injections didn't happen. I've always liked Clemens but I didn't think he came across as especially believable.

I've watched the interview and his press conference, plus listened to the recorded phone conversation, with McNamee and Clemens has made it fairly plain, he didn't do it.

 

He's a professional athlete, MLB great and certain HOF player....he's earned my respect and then some. I'll take his word, over another in this case. The news will dissect this comment/dissect that comment, question his body language, ask why not say this/that but only Clemens and McNamee truly know, what is the truth.

I want to believe he hasn't. And I hope it turns out he didn't. I didn't get to listen to the news conference. I did hear a couple of takes on it on Fox Sports Radio and ESPN. The recorded phone conversation was that, recorded. Maybe both sides had lawyers present and was told what to say, and what not to say. Too many pauses in between for a guy telling a pro athlete what he said and why. And the pro asking why and what.

 

The real truth may never be known. After the lawsuit is finalized, maybe. After Roger talks to congress, maybe. I'm just ready for all this to be done with.

:thumb:I'm inclined to believe him now, too. Someone commented on how Clemens was being kind of a butt about it, but if my reputation took a hit like his has, I'd be a butt, too.

You're going with a guy up against federal charges that has admittingly distributed and administered illegal steroids? Interesting.

 

I like Tim Kurkjian's take after listening to the phone call. "That did nothing." Clemens should've repeatedly told McNamee to admit he lied about him but he didn't. McNamee should've repeatedly said to Clemens something like, "Come on Rog, you know I injected you on this date and location."

I agree with you. I thought that roger had someone on the other end of the line telling him what to say in that phone conversation. It just came across to much like that was scripted...

 

When you think about it, a close friend has just told the world that you did something that you know will taint your career and you will still treat him like good buds when talking on the phone??? Not me, I would have been ticket and would have asked him why did you lie! That was never asked... Roger just said, I want the truth..

Roger's laywer had to be with him during the call--I'm sure it was his idea to tape it. They were obviously trying to get McNamee to admit that he didn't do and he kept feeding the same statements to McNamee and he didn't bite.

What did McNamee mean by his repeated answer "What do you want me to do?" Was it that it's too late to unring the bell? Was it, hey, I know I shouldn't have ratted you about but now what can I do? He says, "Do you want me to go to jail?" (or something like that) Is he asking do you want me to lie?

This still doesn't look very good for Roger. The testamony to Congress (or lack thereof) will be interesting.

I think had Clemens been more direct with his questioning to McNamee then there would have been some legal complications. They tried to get him to bite but he didn't. McNamee was definitely thinking the same thing--at one point he says he would like to say more but he's on a cell phone.

Maybe. But IF he is 100% innocent, then they've really screwed this whole thing up.

I don't know if Clemens if guilty or innocent. I mean I could see both sides but look at Rose he denied it for A LONG time and finally admitted it. I mean, how can we really know? One thing is for sure, if baseball is wrong about Clemens then it will forever hurt the game and it will be hard for it to recover.

Wouldn't it behoove McNamee to get some type of confession from Clemens? I mean, he's already screwed. His credibility goes through the roof if Clemens admits it. If he continues to deny it, everyone will always wonder about the guys that claimed innocence...
