Clemens: Injections were lidocaine, B-12

Featured Replies

NEW YORK - Roger Clemens said former trainer Brian McNamee injected him with the painkiller lidocaine and the vitamin B-12, according to the first excerpts released from the pitcher's interview with CBS's "60 Minutes."

During the interview, recorded last Friday at Clemens' home in Katy, Texas, Clemens was asked whether McNamee had injected him with any drugs.

"Lidocaine and B-12," Clemens responded. "It's for my joints, and B-12 I still take today."

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that can be used by dentists and in minor surgery. It also is available as part of ointments used to treat skin inflammation.

Clemens told CBS that McNamee's accusation was "ridiculous" and said he "never" used banned substances.

"Swear?" CBS's Mike Wallace asked Clemens.

"Swear," Clemens responded.

The Rocket is being truthful or graduated with honors from the Bill Clinton school of liars.;)

I don't know boys... I mean its not like he was throwing 105. He has always thrown hard. A lot like Smoltz... they just have the goods.

I wanna believe Roger, but honestly, how could he confess to it? That would destroy his entire image.

I'm really wanting to believe him, but geez it's hard. Like DF said, if he had let us know this a couple of weeks ago it would have a lot more weight.

Interesting...
Agree and be interesting to see interview and his responses.

Maybe someone can answer but if he still takes B-12 injections, why does a trainer have to administer, rather than himself or say his wife. I could see the lidocaine shot, from someone else but the B-12, not sure about that one.

Hopefully he wasn't taking enhancements and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, until substantiated....MLB has a major PR problem on their hands and so do, many players.

Is the interview, this Sunday night?

McNamee's lawyer's response was that his client was a licensed sports medical trainer and that his client sure as heck knew the difference between lidocaine and B-12, and testosterone, and that his client stood by his story. Has Clemens filed a deformation lawsuit yet?

He also said that if Clemens called him a liar on the interview he was sewing him. I like the comment about he knows the difference between B-12 and testosterone a lot.

This is the problem. It's going to be Clemens', who otherwise had an impeccable reputation, against a guy facing federal charges. I think they're all counting on this, even if McNamee sues. There will be no way of proving this, unless Clemens admits to it. Obviously that's not going to happen any time soon...

They were talking on PTI or Around the horn last night how Wallace and Clemens are very good friends and the fact that Wallace sits in Steinbrenners box at Yankee stadium so I am sure that this interview will not be the hard hitting interview everyone is looking for.

Will Roger lie? Probably not. He did get those injections??? Probably so, but I don't think he's telling the truth about the HGH or steroids either.. I mean if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

I think most of us knew when we found out it would be a 60 Minutes interview that it would be softball questions just lobbed in there. ESPN has quite a few guys that could go a decent job and you can't beat a LIVE interview where you can really gauge a person's response as opposed to something taped and pieced together.

The guy facing federal charges is in a lot more trouble if the feds found out that anything he said was not true. He's spilling the beans to stay OUT of trouble.

"Roger, you promise? Hope to die? Stick a needle in your eye?"

Great question, Mike. Did you think he would change his answer with that brutal line of questioning?

He knows most of these guys will deny til the end. He's giving names to COA...
