A few thoughts and comments:

 

1. Mason County is a very, very good team, Darius is for real and so is #24. I'd be surprised if they did not win state

2. If CovCath can make free throws and not make really, really obvious turnovers, the game never gets to a 25 point deficit.

3. I'm sorry, the Fieldhouse is nice, but with the hype it is given, I didn't think it was that special. Ryle's gym in Union is just a big and just a nice. Am I missing something?

3. Luke Maile was the only CovCath player not afraid of Darius

Pretty strong performance by Mason Cty especially after CCH had Knocked off LexCath a week earlier. Always enjoy when I make the drive up to Maysville to take in a game at the Fieldhouse and last night was no different. Miller continues to impress and I'm glad to see that he is going to Kentucky..

To me it seemed like Ryle and Holmes' gyms would both be bigger, but my eyes must have lied to me.

 

Your view must have been obstructed.

 

Also, Conner is bigger than Holmes and Ryle.

Obviously, I had heard much about Darius Miller; and was aware of him heading to UK; however, I had not seen him in person till last night. I expected to see a relatively impressive kid; but, for some reason, I expected the hype to be somewhat exaggerated.

 

I must say that it was a pleasure to see a big time prep player in person and that the hype is well deserved! He is impressive in every way and I look forward to rooting for him at UK. As hard as my Colonels played, I couldn't help but feel that he was 'toying' with them at times; not in an arrogant, look at me way, just that I think he could literally do whatever he wanted. He is physically "all that".

 

The best part, for me, however, was that he seemed to be a truly decent kid! I was most impressed with his demeanor, attitude, and genuine respect for the game, his teammates, and his opposition. Some of the on court bantering I heard about today was truly amazing to me...he was down to earth, humble, and grounded from my perspective...it wasn't a cocky sarcasm like you would expect from a player of his status. I have a profound respect for this young man. Congrats to him and his parents for a job well done. I wish him all the best and will be a genuine fan as I watch him move on to the 'big time'!

The Fieldhouse was a great venue for watching one very good and one great team. The home crowd was very cordial. Excellent hosts. Very good and friendly people. The crazies were great. In addition to being a great player, Darius Miller show class throughout the game. One such example was when Cov Cath guard Rolle drove the lane, had the shot blocked and ended up on the court beyond the baseline. D. Miller stayed near Rolle until he got up, and offered his hand to Rolle on at least two occasions. Best of luck to the Royals. Perhaps we will cross paths again in March.

I would have liked the game to go down to the wire; since I made the trip from Lexington the weekend before finals. With that being said, I wasn't disappointed with the game at all.

 

This is the second game the I have seen Darius play this year, and he is the real deal. I feel like he plays with a confidence and an awareness similar to Patterson. Many players have the athleticism to be great players, but lack the patience. I'll be excited when he arrives in Lexington. Also, when the rest of MC is knocking down shots, it helps Darius to be selective. In reality though, he looked like he could have taken over whenever he wanted to.

 

CCH is a very solid team, but Mason County was simply too "long" for them. It was very difficult for CCH to have success driving to the basket because of MC's height. MC plays solid team defense and in order for CCH to win the game they would have had to shoot excellent from 3-point line, and draw defenders out.

 

As for the crazies... I absolutely hate that I love to watch them.

Too early to tell! I still like Coach Henley and the Bulldogs in the 9th.

 

If you start thinking about what team at this point has the best chance in the 9th to do well in the State Tourney, I would say CCH. But Henley does a nice job at coaching those kids up around tournament time. He knocked off CCH last year when it counted and could be same situation this year. However, dont count out the Birds either. If they can establish someone at the post by end of the year, they will make a run with the guard tandem of McGraw/Simpson and the tenacious defense Willie's team plays.

Well said, and you are absolutely right. Darius and his family are great people. I know what you mean about him playing with the swagger but not in a cocky way. I can't wait to see him in htat wildcats jersey next year.

Very nice to hear the kind words from some of the CCH faithful about D Miller, the Royals and the venue. We appreciate it!

From what I heard from my brother at the game it was the biggest crowd he's ever seen at a MC game in a long time, or if ever.

 

Are you serious? Have you ever been there when we played Lex Cath or Scott Co? Or for a 10th region tournament game? There wasnt that big of a crowd there at all.

Most of this will be redundant, but some thoughts on the game Friday night:

 

* Let me begin with this, only CSHS can carve a buck out for a great cause and call it "got in my pocket." Jeesh...

 

* Darius Miller was unreal. As has been said countless times in this thread, he could do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. CCH tried several kids, and they gave it their all, it just wasn't enough. Luke struggled against him, but hats off to Luke for wanting the challenge and not backing down to it.

 

* The Mr. Basketball award is over. Congrats. :bunny:

 

* Setty is really, really good. What a weapon. Long, solid fundamentally, great shooter. Super complimentary player. Had heard about him but didn't realize he was THIS good. He was easily the 2nd best player on the court.

 

* Loved the fact that the CovCath kids never gave up. They played their tails off until the final horn. Listerman has to be proud of that.

 

* #52 for Mason Co. will be a nice player in the future. As will #5 (JV kid who dressed varsity but didn't get in). Solid players...I assume sophomores? Nice future.

 

* Gym was nice, no question, but the people were even better. Everyone, from the lady watching the doors to the woman supervising the kids' fund-raising were just as nice as they could be.

 

* Mi Camino Real just does NOT disappoint. It's as simple as that.

 

* If there is a team in KY better than Mason County than they are REALLY good and REALLY deep. That is one loooong bunch of Royals.

 

Great atmosphere and thrilled that I made the trip in spite of the loss.

Mason Co was up by as many up 25 in the game. The Royals could have won by more, but give credit to Cov Cath. Cov Cath has a nice team. I think they will take the 9th region.

 

No offense..but, you must not have seen 'Holmes'...they're loaded!!
