You may very well be correct, but then again you may very well be falsely inclined...only time will tell. Never disrespect an opponent. It can be fatal. Hounds are capable of throwing the ball when they need to. Big question for me is if they can stop New Cath. If the game is in the twenties......an upset may happen.

I have been told that NCC is quick on the defensive line though not very big, with LB's and DB's that fly to the ball and like to hit. That unfortunately sounds similar to Belfry who shut out Corbin. Corbin's two leading rushers were playing their first varsity game in that outing and I don't think that either started and only carried the ball a couple of times combined. Their maturation has made Corbin more of a running team than a passing team, but I would not be surprised to see Corbin throw for much more yardage than they run for Friday night while going with more offensive sets and formations that can be very confusing to the defense.

 

I think Corbin will score a few TD's , I'm more worried about stopping NCC's passing attack.

 

How big is Newport Catholic's defensive line? I would guess that Corbin averages about 275 lbs. on the offensive line.

From the videos NCC looks small but quick on both sides

This game won't be close in my opinion. If the Redhounds line truly averages 275 lbs. , it will get ugly quickly. Speed kills. It absolutely dominates on the high school level. The Breds will be one of the faster, if not the fastest team the Redhounds have played all year and will take advantage of that big d-line in the 2nd half. Breds win running away 34 -7. :eek:

I think it will be a fine matchup. Both teams played well against the larger schools, both will teams will come into the game battle tested. NCC with wins over 2 NKY 6A schools, a close loss to Ryle and a win over Beechwood and CCH speaks volumes about their squad. I know one thing, it'll be tough for me to decide on which NKY game to attend, I guess I could always save the $6 and sit on the hill outside of Newport Stadium.

It appears this will be a Corbin size versus Newcath speed match-up on both sides of the ball.

 

When Corbin has the ball they will need the big O-line to grind out yardage on first and second down and stay out of passing situations. NCC's defensive line isn't small (245, 215, 215, 175) but quickness is their strength and the linebackers have size and speed too. Plus if Corbin does pass then NewCath must find a way to pressure the QB.

 

When NewCath has the ball the spread offense needs to get ball carriers and receivers into open spaces and use the no huddle to keep Corbin off balance. If Corbin's defense can get a few quick stops and turn the ball back over to a controlling offense, they can shorten the game and win. If they give up quick scores they could lose.

 

How's Corbin's special teams? Still think that is going to be a major part of this game.

That is Hog Wash. Not a good time to start that kind of stuff. What happened Friday Night was NCC was bound and determined to run the ball. First five plays of the game, it did not work and set the tone for the game. We dropped a few passes, had a few interceptions and then we decide to run the ball. I can tell you first hand over the last four years any dissention on a Bob Schneider team gets fixed fast. I just asked my son who is one of the talented Sr wideouts, who by the way played in 5 varsity games as a freshmen along with the other 4 they brought up that year. Those kids were embraced by the older players. That is all he ever talked about where the older players and how he was treated.. Now don't get me wrong but I do see your point, but as far as dissention and causing them a State Title I don't buy it. It's time we all rally around this team and bring home another state title. Only NCC beats NCC this year I hope to see you back on board

They have stuck with the same players. What NKU20 was referring to was at the end of the Newport playoff game with the subs playing and the final TD was scored by a Frosh. After the Frosh season is over a few are asked to practice and dress for playoff games. That has been the case for quite a few years now.

 

Anyway the 28-0 playoff game was just about the same as the 14-0 regular season game except both teams turned it over a lot more. So not sure that you can garner any information from that one.

While I understand their concerns, that Freshman will be starting next year somewhere. I understand working out all offseason, practicing hard, and then not getting to play at the end of the game b/c they put the freshman in. It happened to me in baseball. However, I also see the coaches position in getting him reps. If that caused dissension, then they need to get it together b/c it would be a shame to let a few kids egos cost a whole team a state championship.

NCC had a MAJOR problem with parents and fans being negative and causing dissention a few years back.

 

I thought we were past all that.

 

If the coaches want that kid in for a few reps, he must deserve it. I know the kid in question and it's not like he isn't good, b/c he is VERY good.

 

If anyone has a problem with not playing talk to the coaches to find out why or go play soccer, you're allowed to whine over there.
