After seeing the last couple of NCC teams and Corbin this year I've got to five the edge to the 'Breds. Corbin is a solid team and while Dunbar, South Laurel, LCA, Somerset, and Middlesboro all have solid teams with some speed I would equate NCC more with Belfry, who shut Corbin out. Corbin will have some success but they won't be able to rip off long gains or run by NCC's DBs in the passing game. Corbin doesn't have the depth to grind out long drives and shut down NCC on defense. It'll be a hard fought game but in the end the trip and NCC's speed and depth will do the Hounds in. NCC 42, Corbin 21.

Obviously Average Joe has seen Corbin play only once this year.

 

As far as balance, you never know what you are gonna get. We might run 90% of the time and grind it out or we could go 70% pass 30% run as we have done. 3, 4 or 5 yards a play would suit us fine though.

 

We have thrown as much as 50 - 60 times a game in the last couple years though.

don't think a 2 1/2 hour trip with school out will bother teenage boys too much.

Cashen has 185 pass attempts in 11 games. That's 16.8 per game. If he threw the ball 50-60 times in a game he sure didn't put it up much the rest of the time. Corbin is a running team. Corbin is much more effective throwing the ball when the run sets up the pass. Their play action on 1st down or 2nd/3rd and less than 5 is very effective. However, I just don't see the Hounds running the ball effectively enough to set up those short yardage situations and they do not have the speed to rip off 50-80 runs on the Breds. Corbin will not be able to grind out long scoring drives and then use the same players to stop NCC's offense. It might work for awhile but NCC's depth will do the Hounds in. I hope Corbin does win but I just don't see it happening.

NCC only has one player that plays the majority of plays both ways and that is OT/DE Geisler.

 

Part of the advantage that NCC has had since 2000 over other small schools is that their QB and primary RB only play offense. That is the same again this year along with the center, the wide receivers, and most of the linemen. A couple of players can see some action on both sides of the ball but it is limited. For example, linebackers can also see time at fullback but that may only be 4 or 5 plays a game. Most eveyone in the secondary could play offense if needed, but they primarily play defense only.

 

That also helps the special teams too since many starters also play on special teams since they only play one way.

 

That depth is really helpful when preparing in practice for a team as good as Corbin.

Corbin has wanted this match up since they saw it might be a possibility. They will be ready. They know they have to bring their "A" game and they will. GO HOUNDS!!!!!
