Good point scribe, I still say that the playoffs are good for all and even if you get beat you still got to play. I would like to see us give it another week. I can promise everyone that all the # 3 and #4 seeds that won last night are perfectly fine with the current system. I say leave it alone and just go play.

IMHO, the bottom line is this: If a team doesn't win a district game in the regular season, they do not deserve to be in the playoffs...

How about a 1-3 playoff versus a different district with the #1 seed getting a bye and one-third of the first round gate?

 

Gives you something to play for, the same amount of playoff games, and a weeks rest for a job well done.:confused:

I don't think you will ever see that change. Dropping that round of playoff games would be detrimental to the bottom line for the KHSAA and one of the reasons given for the change to 6 classes was to see more teams make the post season.

 

There will still be blowouts, but they would be more interesting blowouts using the old system.

 

The 2nd round is where I really liked the old system better. The games are more competitive and instead of playing a team you already faced, you were taking on one of the better teams from the neighboring district for a chance to play for the regional title.

 

Unless I miss my guess, the first round has nothing to do with the bottom line of the KHSAA so don't even enter that into the discussion. it does effect the bottom line of the KHSAA member schools who get that extra gate, however large or small it is, and it varies from what I am told, in the first round.

KHSAA scoreboard is about 85% complete at this point and I already see over 20 shutouts:creepy:I don't have the time but it would be interesting to see the margin of victory average overall tonight. I'd say it is ludacrus. Playing within your district in the playoff for 2 rounds is a JOKE. A JOKE that no one even got to vote on, it was just made up.

 

Life isn't about a vote. Get over it. Pay attention to coach Schneider's comments. It isn't what coaches or fans want that matters. If you want to lobby, talk to the administrators with $3.33 per gallon diesel fuel this past Friday.

Yea, but they are playing three classes higher this year.

To touch on kissinger and Watusi I thought the reason for the extra round of playoffs was numerous schools want it that way. Many of us fans don't like it but it is by no means that big of a deal. For example, I would like one less round but if that one round makes a lot of people that do this job happy so be it.

 

On the money, I thought the KHSAA only took the money from the finals and not any of the other postseason games. Now I believe the OHSAA takes most of the money from all of the postseason games which is something I think the KHSAA should look at to some extent in the future.

If it isn't what coaches or fans want then I'm sure if no one showed up on Friday's they would listen.

I like the playing another district in the first two rounds much better. I realize some 0-10 and 1-9 teams made it this year. I know it won't be done, but maybe you look at moving a 5-5 team from another district into one of the 0-10 teams slot.

From what I understand there is a major push to go away from playing your own district in the playoffs and return to the way it was recently.

In the old cross district system our district is pretty balanced top to bottom and if we had excellent teams 1-4 who knows maybe 2 same district teams will play in the regional finals. PC vs. Lincoln?

 

I think that Somerset when in class A back in the late 90's played with Danville, Harrodsburg, Campbellsville, Green County, and I forget who else. If my memory serves me right there were 3 or 4 of those teams ranked in the top 10 that year. Somerset ended up the 3rd or 4th seed and beat Danville in the regional final to move on after upsetting 2 teams from the opposing district.

What makes you think that it would have been any different if there had been inter district play? I don't know the answer, but my guess is that if you went back to two years ago under the old system there were a like number of first game blowouts. It's more a matter of who was getting blown out.

I agree with your statement 100% and feel eliminating the winless team in the district would go a long way in creating a more exciting first round playoff game.
