Blind Draw? then the season would mean nothing as far as seeding goes. I would like to see #1 play #4 from the other district and #2 play #3 from the other district. But a blind draw that could pit #1 vs #1 in the first round would be a bad idea IMHO. :fight:

The system did not prevent Warren Central from winning four straight Indiana state titles. Devaluing the regular season encourages teams to schedule tougher non-district games and to give young kids more experience with the outcomes of games still in doubt.

 

The idea of making teams "play into" the playoffs has never made much sense to me at the high school level in a state the size of Kentucky. I understand that in very large states restricting the number of teams in the playoffs is necessary, but it really makes no sense in our state. I agree with having more teams in the playoffs as well, I just think the playoffs still need to be seeded not done on a blind draw. I like the system we had two years ago where each district team played a team from the opposing district in the first round 1's vs 4's and 2's vs 3's. Each round of the playoffs should get harder. If two #1 teams played in the first round the winner could very likely have a cake walk for the next two weeks. Each round should be a little tougher than the week before.

As long as there are going to be 4 teams from each district in the playoffs, at least go back to the previous format of playing first-round games against neighboring districts.

 

But it's the 4 automatic district qualifiers that's the inherent problem. I'd rather see another entertaining regular-season game and one less playoff game.

I sure hope your right and it ends up getting changed. I have been against this whole new playoff format since it started last year. I know that is one of the things that I loved was how you play another district in the first two rounds...

I do not mind the number of teams in the playoffs. It would be much better to play cross district though.

My thoughts are after glancing over the KHSAA scoreboard I see about 12 games at most that were competitive.

 

 

1st round is useless

The average score of the first round games was 41-11 (40.61-11.37).

Earlier it mentioned that gas was an issue and slight determining factor for the playoff set up, after looking at the scores and ( repeat ) blowouts......This also seems to be a waste gas and time.

I was heading to the Danville game and I heard the score was 48-0, so I just said heck with it and saved my money. I'll try to start watching the "playoffs" next week.

The first round of any playoff is supposed to be boring. That means the best teams are not eliminating each other early.

Me too. I know the powers that be are looking at it so we shall see.

We still may have some blowouts but at least they wouldn't be re-peats.

 

Also there would at least be a sense of hope, doubt, and fans being not so sure of what to expect.

 

The way it is now, as soon as the dominate team goes up on the score board, you think to yourself, here we go again............

The margin of win in Class 1A this year was 28.1. In 2005, it was 32.8.

 

In Class 3A, the margin of win was 27.0. In 2005, it was 28.0.

 

Overall, the margin of win this year in the first round was 29.2. In 2005, it was 27.5.
