Varsity starters playing JV

Featured Replies

Was WV playing Seniors on their JV team?

If that is what they agreed on there is no problem, although it does hurt the regular JV players in that they don't get as much playing time to reward them for their hard work through the year (typically getting beat on by the varsity).

I don't think you play a junior starter, but a freshman who starts, definitly. A sophomore, I could see an argument both ways.

This is illegal. If your season is over, then you can't play a JV game.

:thumb::thumb:When the varsity plays their last game, the season is over for the varsity, JV, freshman team, etc.

Wouldn't they be violating the scrimmage rule or number of games played rules if they play their starters in a JV game?

Just for fun.... Ill ask if anyone has a problem with Junior's playing in a Freshman game...?

The KHSAA rule states that all contest ends for all levels (9-12) on the Saturday preceding the start of the KHSAA playoffs, which would be next Saturday.

No, JV games do not have an effect of number of games restrictions. Many players who play JV also play some on the varsity level. I think some states have requirements on the number of quarters a player can play a week but KY is not one of them. I know OHIO does have a quarter restriction in basketball.

Here we go again! I personally find it kind of enjoyable for once to sit back and read non-X/T supporters debating this question. :D

Isn't it called a FRESHMAN game? It's not called a SOPHMORE or JUNIOR game. Coaches that allow that kind of stuff have major issues. It actually happened earlier this year w/ Pulaski & Southwestern. PC brought their Freshman team over & played a team made up of freshman & sophmore players. Mind you, this was a scheduled FRESHMAN game, yet SW felt it necessary to play sophmores in the game. PC still won 48-26. If you are wanting to get experience for you sophmore class let them play JV. I guess playing a junior on JV is acceptable in some cases, but a JR in a Fr. game is ridiculous.

If the "WV" is Walton-Verona, I could see them wanting to play Grant's varsity to gauge their progress. Anyone actually know what WV requested, other than Giantkiller?[/QUOTE]

Yes, WV is Walton-Verona, and No requests were made.. Since WV only plays JV there are no Seniors on the team.

?? Do you know the rule, I am unfamiliar with that.

You need to get your stories straight, Coach Millen called coach Davis this morning and told him that he was sorry for the misunderstanding by some of his fans. He felt it was a great atomosphere and it was going to help him convince the administration at WV to allow him to play more teams in a varsity schedule next year. It was discuss by both head coaches and agreed upon by both according to my sources. I think that WV is going to be good in years to come and once again if both coaches were fine with it so be it. Also there is tons of times teams show up and don't tell the other coach they are bringing older players and such, or sophomores playing in a freshman game and no one knows, but in this case it sounds like it was made aware before they played the game

If WV was OK with it and its not violating any KHSAA rules, have at it.

This is as dumb as sophomores playing over freshman on the freshman team.
