Varsity starters playing JV

Featured Replies

Coach told me that the oppponent wanted this type of game to compare their progress. He said that they also used it to get a look for next year and several young players playing with some of the starters. He also said that the True JV drove the length of the field with 2 minutes to go and won on a pass for a TD, with a second left on the clock after a TD got called back. The so called starters he said played 3 series of offense and 2 series of defense. He also said that WV played awesome and deserve alot of credit for the improvement over the year.

And lets not forget the game was 9-6 with 8 seconds left when grant threw a hail mary to win the game. Bad decision on the part of grant bringing the varsity players and being showed up by a first-year JV team. GO BEARCATS!!

Thats a ridiculous arguement.... Thats what scrimmages are for at the beginning of next season. This is a coach who wanted to try and bully a 1-A football team to make himself feel good after missing the playoffs.

Ridiculous arguement.. That is what scrimmages are for at the beginning of the year. And the Varsity offensive line played all but the first quarter. It was a completely diffferent team after half time.

Unheard of, poor decision no matter what the other team wanted.

From a complete outsiders point of view, if the coaches want a competitive game and there might of been conversation before the game about the players between the coaches, then let them play. When coaches agree, then there shouldn't a problem. It's when they don't know or one team chooses to do it one way and the other team another way. There are no records kept at the KHSAA for JV as long as the teams don't exceed 10 regular season games at a single level. Here's a question-if the varsity kid had been ejected at the last varsity game, could he play in the JV? I will answer later.

Yes because he only sits out at the level he is ejected from. At least that is the way it is for coaches so I am assuming that is the same for players.

I agree. Perfect example of people not knowing the situation and jumping to rediculous conclusions.

This is illegal. If your season is over, then you can't play a JV game.

NO, it would still be legal. The opportunity to participate in regular season contests ends at all levels of play (grades 9-12) on the Saturday preceding the first KHSAA Tournament game.

Yes, since he was not a senior the full penalty would carry over to next season in the sport in which the student was participating when ejected. If he was a senior it would carry over to the next KHSAA sanctioned sport.

Now, if the player was ejected from the last game of a non-varsity game then the full penalty shall carry over to the next varsity level game in any KHSAA sanctioned sport.

If the "WV" is Walton-Verona, I could see them wanting to play Grant's varsity to gauge their progress. Anyone actually know what WV requested, other than Giantkiller?

I think it is OK, especially in the smaller schools when due to injuries etc..near the end of the season we are having to start Soph's and FR. Let them play JV so that they get to play against players at their level.
