I am a student at Conner who lives in the new district for Cooper, and I am torn between whether to attend Conner next year or Cooper.

If they hire Mike Woolfe and you play football, attend Cooper.

Mike Woolf is the assistant head coach and DC for Ryle.

Mike Wolfe is an assitant coach and defensive coordinator for Ryle and is a very good coach and person. His knowledge and intense enthusiasm is great and plus he was a good player in high school and college. I would want my son playing for him or any coach at Ryle. JD

Perhaps. For next year, I believe they'll play 6A. When they reclass the following year, the way Boone County is growing, they all could stay at 6A. If not, then you are correct in the possible implications. Not sure if they would allow CovCath and Highlands to remain 5A if a couple (or even 1) of the Boone schools become 5A (which will make Tom Spritzky very happy). Then again, there are no 4A schools in or near N. Ky that I can think of off the top of my head. What do you do with those two schools (and that's assuming the KHSAA sticks with allowing geographically isolated schools to move up, which they most definitely should, but that's a debate for another thread).

 

Heck, if I'm right and the Boone County schools continue to grow at almost unbelievable speed and they all are 6A, you could almost have a 6A district within Boone County with Ryle, Boone, Conner and Cooper. The issue there may become do you create a 6 team district and add Simon Kenton and Campbell County or have a 5 team district and move one of those two to an adjacent district (which probably won't be received well by the moved school then again, if it means moving to a weaker district, perhaps the moved school won't mind).

If they bumped Highlands and Covington Catholic down to 4A, there are no "northern Kentucky" schools currently in 4A. That doesn't account for Pendleton County, Harrison County and Bourbon County, three schools just outside of the typical northern Kentucky boundary.

I understand when open in 2008 seniors who are suppose to go there may choose to graduate from their current school, other juniors Etc will have to transfer.

 

Would the KHSAA consider both schools (old boundaries & new boundaries) OK for student athlete seniors? Would make common sense but you know how that goes.

 

Would hate to see a Conner Senior ruled ineligible to play because he stayed at Conner instead of going to Cooper and had no change of address. It's a shame we even have to consider the possibility that the KHSAA could be that stupid -- but we do.

^ Seniors-to-be get to make a choice regarding redistricting. Since the BOE caused the change there would be no ruling of inelgiblity, no matter what choice they choose.

This may become a trend in these fast growing counties. I have heard that new high schools may also be on the horizon for Laurel County and Pulaski County.

If HHS and CCHS get kicked back down to 4A, they may as well just move the 4A state game to Northern Kentucky and Rotate it between those two teams. You know that one of them will be in it almost every year. Or they could get really smart and rezone the districts to have them play in the title game. We could have it at Thomas More or something like that. I heard that they are renovating their stadium. Seriously, that would be awful for all the rest of 4A if that were to happen. If you limit it just to the past 30 years, it's HHS 12 times, and CCHS 6 times.
