It had nothing to do with St.X, building code restrictions that were found out too late prevented the visitors side and total stadium capacity from being any larger. It is still the best and I've have seen them all.

But it is possible that is the most ridiculous question I have seen in a while. There were space and weight issues with the visitors side b/c of a MSD line that borders that side of campus. Nothing we could do about it.

Mike Holcomb Complex Breathitt Co. is really a good place to watch a football game covered and will hold between 3500 and 4000 fans ,and yes the visitors side will hold a few ,and they are working to get that improved,i hear we getting new field ,i hope it's true,grass is too much trouble to keep up,so if we get another state championship,we just may have turf on Mike Holcomb Field also.....

 

Breathitt's stadium is nice but has one flaw that will never allow me to call it one of the best in the state.. the visitor seating is HORRIBLE!!!!! For school's with large followings it forces fans to either stand all game, have the majority of the game obstructed by players in front of them, or cause fans to sit on the Breathitt side (where the natives are hostile). For those "lucky" enough to have a seat on the visiting bleachers, the inevitable fear of falling down the steep river bank whne your mud soaked shoes from walking to the seats slips on the top level of the uneven seats HAHA

Weight issues? I suspect that there are a lot of good engineers that graduated from St X that could have designed a foundation for you to take care of that. If not, I KNOW that there are a lot of good engineers that went to Trinity (blush). What was it that kept them from making the stands tall enough to see over the players? Does the airport authority have an air easement over the visitors stands?

 

I haven't seen all of the very nice stadiums around the state, but by far, the best high school football stadium in the Louisville area is Marshall Stadium.

I love Ashlands Putnam Stadium! The horseshoe style with the stands right on top of the sidelines, and the history in it.

 

Russells "Hank" is #2 in my book, and when these 2 teams play eachother expect either stadium to be packed to the brim, 10,000+ is some instances.

:ylsuper: I know that, you know that, EVERYONE else sees it, except for the two fan bases involved. I guess love really is blind.

I think you have to classify the stadiums in two different categories, Modern and nestalgic. The old stadiums cannot compare to the modern ones for convieniences, but IMO the new ones cannot match the atmosphere. As far as Modern stadiums go, I love the CAM field at Belfry, but with that being said, I loved the atmosphere and history of Vipperman. Ashland has the best Old stadium in the State, IMO its just filled with history and its has a look all its own. I guess it just boils down to what you are looking for!

Seems oddly familiar.

The pit is at Cincy Elder has a great atmosphere. IMO St X (oh) is the most impressive. They can honestly say that they have a nosebleed section because the top row is about 7 stories high.

 

But nothing beats playing, and winning, at Highlands.

Nah, it's all about togetherness!

Of the ones I have been to:

 

St. Xavier, Trinity, Stadium of Champions (Hopkinsville), Belfry, Highlands, Scott County, Pikeville

 

Others:

 

In Lexington, Henry Clay, Tates Creek, Bryan Station, and Dunbar are all nice, but it is like watching a game from the parking lot since the stands are so far away. Plus, absolutely no intimacy as far as the fans being right on the field.

 

I like the surroundings, atmosphere, and proximity to the field of BELFRY's stadium the best.
