I know you're a CCH buff that's why this is addressed to you. Do you remember the game when cov cath palyed boone county when their seniors were all sitting? I would think that's a little sample of what we'll see this year and i think furnish (if he decides to play) was in right and the LaFever kid was in left if i remember correctly. Do you know anything about either of them?

 

 

Of course I remember, and of course I was there to watch.

Furnish is a good fielder and has great speed, but needs to learn how to use it. Not much of a bat, but is strong and is a senior which other than Wehry and Neihaus CovCath doesn't have many.

 

LaFever I have been told (haven't seen him play much) is a good player but I won't give a opinion on a player that I haven't seen a lot.

 

Have been told and I have seen Pat VanSant(sp?) play (he was injured last year) and the young man is indeed a player. Good glove and bat. Will help a.....LOT in the outfield....

Newport C Catholic has a very talented group of Juniors that should get plenty of varsity time this year. Many of them played on 2 knothole city championships.

 

Matthew Giesler-Matthew Johnson-Logan Ferrera-Chris Grosser-Ben "Eskimo" Parr all were Muddogs!! Nice core of players to build a ball team around. Robbie Kues was a pretty good hardballer...does he play? Dusty Giesler, Diehl, Franzen, Pabst are Sr's who can ball and I'm sure I'm leaving out some kids whose names end in vowels that can play!! (LOL) NCC should/could contend!

Cov Cath will NOT be the clear favorite in the 9th. You seem to think its Cov Cath 1, and then the rest of the field. There are 4 or 5 teams that can win region this year: Ryle, Beechwood, Cov Cath, Highlands and maybe Boone. It will be tough for Cov Cath to win their district, let alone the region.

Saw Grosser play a little last summer very impressive wheels. Kelly and Connor were on the same team and they looked like varsity players. With Pabst and kelly they should be solid behind the plate. Connor can pick it, they should be decent.

I'm not anti-Boone in any way, shape, or form - in fact, I'm a fan of Boone whenever they're not playing Ryle - but I think they would have a much tougher time of winning the region over the other teams you listed due to a lack of pitching depth.

I think it's going to be a fun year....with Ryle, Cov Cath and Beechwood all having a shot. Whoever wants it most.

Seems everybody is kind of delegating Beechwoods team to a bridesmaid. I saw them play about 4-5 times last year with only one player with varsity exerience. To get to semi finals at Freedom quite an accomplishment for Coach Meyerhoff. I'm not giving Beechwood the title but with hitters like Elliot, Slusher, Gohs,Morris, and Miller \returning.. they are probably the most experienced varsity teams based on returning 8 starters and 3 starters in pitching. could have alot of help in close games.

Grosser has good speed but not such a good bat or glove. Decent on the mound if he gets some innings this year.

I talked to a Beechwood parent today, and he said they have a Sophomore pitcher who just transferred in from Indiana that is supposed to be a pretty good ball player. I do not know if he will make a huge impact this year, but it certainly helps for the future.

He is not so much a pitcher but rather a position player. A buddy of mine said he played for his sons summer team and played a good Right Field and is a decent hitter. He seemed to think that the kid wouldnt be a varsity stud or be a part of the regular pitching rotation but could see some playing time depending on who is pitching at the time. Beechwood already has 4 solid pitchers in Elliott, Hadden, Smith, and Snyder. I dont see the transfer getting involved that much in the pitching rotation but he could be used as a reliever.

Van sant has been player center his entire life and likewise nutini in left. Van sant is a lot quicker too.
