16th Region/District predictions

Matt Thomas has to be in there somewhere, don't you think?

Matt Thomas would probably be 5th on that list and Jacob Sparks 6th

Tyler Boyles is Pretty tough too... 3 sport standout...

Sparks also plays 3 sports!

I would say Ferguson would be a very good football player if Elliott had a team and I know him and the Faulkners could play Baseball if they wanted to.

Across the board, East is the most athletic team in the region. When I say athletic, I'm speaking on speed, quickness, jumping ability, etc. East Carter will have four players in thier starting line-up this year that will dunk in a game. They all are very athletic.

I wish I knew his name, but Bath Co. has a very athletic kid, Blandon ?.

I was saying that as far as overall athleticsm Johnson stands out to me. His verticle leap is amazing. Sparks may jump higher, but he is taller so it is hard to judge. Heard he had, and I quote "an awesome tip dunk" at bluechip camp over top of someone. Hard to imagine anyone else in this region doing that once or twice this season. But, then again he's 6-4 or 6-5 so he has an advantage on the smaller athletes of this region. Thomas is the best all around when it comes to excelling at multiple sports. I agree, I've always though Ferguson would be a heck of a tailback or wide reciever if he could get onto the football field. I know 100% of the football teams in this region would have loved to have him. As for Chad Jackson, I said in another post on another thread that he was close to Johnson in overall athleticism, but, from what I've seen he isn't as complete an athlete as Drew. As for 4 from East dunking in a game, that would be quite an accomplishment. I can think of Johnson, and Barnhill, and I would quess Bair, who is the forth? I would guess Tyler Jackson? They all have quite a bit of leaping ability from what I've seen. But outside of Johnson, I would have to think it would be on a wide open break which is still awesome for Eastern Kentucky. But, if we were in lexington we would be talking about the 4 or 5 kids per team that couldn't dunk so oh well.

As for Elliott they are definitely the quickest team in the region. They pretty much play all guards, including the 6-6 Timmy Knipp. Actually 6-6 might be selling him short. he's growing like a weed. Every other team is sort of incomplete at this point in time. East needs points in the paint (hurt them last year i felt). Raceland needs a go to guy, I would look at Tyler Boyles, the boy can play. Ashlands role players need to step up in March. Rose Hill needs 5 or 6 consistant role players. Honestly don't know much about Fairview, but I've heard they will be competetive. Boyd will improve, and will need several players to step up to get into the upper echelon of the region. Two teams who are a little over looked at this point are Bath and West. Don't know about the role players for Bath, but Metz is a beast, NO guard in this region matches his physical strength. Clemons can play too, and as someone stated is quite an athlete in his own right. For West, if they can get their rotation down, and get consistant play they will be a top 7 team in the region, Jeremy Webb will work hard to get the Comets to a consistant top team in the region like they were in the 90's. Neither team has perhaps earned the right to be ranked near the top, but both could be competetive.

With that said all teams in the region, must improve, work on the rough edges, and use teamwork to make it to Rupp. No region championship has ever been decided in November. Anyone have any word on what Rowan, Morgan, Lewis, Russell, Menifee, Fleming, or Greenup will look like? I know Morgan and Lewis are extremely well coached and will be a tough out in March.

Your right, Jackson is the fourth. He dunks quite easily.

Who cares about dunking.......big deal. I would rather have 5 guys who are fundamentally sound, can shoot, play D, and can pass well, than 5 guys who might possibly be able to dunk if given a wide open fastbreak. I doubt we will see any drop step dunks, ala Mark Surgalski. Or any blow by you straight to the hoop dunks ala, OJ, or Marques Dawson.

Wow, we are now comparing dunkers? If I remember correctly, didn't Gill from Russell seem to be the best athlete last season? Did he not dunk a couple of times on in-bounds plays? Great to watch, very exciting, yet he was merely a role player. Sometimes athleticism doesn't translate into great basketball player. This has turned into "my guy is a better athlete than your guy" thread. East lost a very talented shooter who is now shooting at KCU. They'd best hope one of those tremendous athletes can put the biscuit in the basket. Ferguson can jump out of the gym, yet he knows how to elevate and score. No one IMO can go to the hole like Jackson from Rose Hill, no one can drive and elevate and hit a 10 foot jumper like Thomas from Ashland. No one can deny Selby once he gets it on the block. So here we go, spinning the 16th region wheel and I for one can't wait until we play some games instead of running our traps.

C'mon Doc! It aint no fun if you don't get to run your flapper a little bit. Which also leads to getting to eat a little crow, which aint so bad if you step up and take it like a man!!:D Did the little one get an adrenaline check during the M/L season??

The point I was trying to make was that East Carter is a very athletic team, so I used 4 players in thier starting line-up dunking as an example to back my statements. Being able to dunk a basketball would be one element that represents athleticism.

If I recall correctly, one of those "tremendous athletes" averaged 14 points per game last year and was an all district, all region, and all area performer.(Drew Johnson)

BTW, I am not an East Carter fan but they are going be a great team.

Yep, blew the acorns out of a doe! Might as well have been wallhanger to him! Any whoppers replaced blue tongue?
