Be Honest...How many wanted Brooks fired 2 years ago?

Featured Replies

Hmmm 2 or 3 years ago just about everyone on here was saying they wanted Brooks gone. You hardly ever seen anyone say that Brooks should stay. Yet on here we have alot of people saying that they didn't want Brooks gone? Did you all just decide not to post when people were saying they wanted Brooks gone. Because I know I definitely dont remember hearing hardly anyone stick up for him...

Also I admit I definitey was someone that wanted him gone 2 years ago...I was wrong though and he has turned this program around!

Several have admitted that they wanted him gone but have since changed their mind. Some have chosen to avoid this thread. Either way, Brooks does seem to have much more support than he did as recently as last season. It's amazing what going 9-1 in a 10 game stretch will do for UK football fans!

STRIKE3 can vouch for me....I've been on the Brooks bandwagon from the word go, as he and I debated the issue on numerous occasions during Brooks' tenure as head coach at UK.

I wasn't his biggest fan, but I sure didn't want him fired. The links to other threads back that up.

I was one that didn't think Brooks was the right man for the job. I didn't question his coaching ability as much as I did his personality.

I stated last season I was wrong in my assessment. The players believeing in Brooks was enough to convince me he should be the coach. Also I think the assistant coaches have also made a big difference.

The assistant coaches have made all the difference IMO...Ever since we changed offensive coordinators and QB coach the offense has turned around. And well now this year our defense even though it hasn't been great, still has been pretty darn good...Which I give Brooks credit for realizing there needed to be changes in his assistants. Maybe he can teach Marvin Lewis a thing or two about that...

I'm not a big UK football fan but I will give credit where it's due. He has done a good job. I was not one that thought he should be fired but I did question his hiring. IMO the true test of the job he's done will be measured after he retires from the UK program. If it continues in the direction it has or sustains the level that it is at when he leaves (if it's a competitive level) then I would think saying he has done a "great" job would be an understatement.

I think the measure of overall job performance was if he leaves the program in better shape then he found it. In this case, to date, he has put it in MUCH better shape. However, when sometime in the future he does retire and IF the new head coach doesn't continue on in the same positive direction, I can't blame him for that.

I'm also guilty, I wanted him out. Boy,was I wrong,he's the best thing now since the shirt pocket.

I wanted him gone, I was obviously dead wrong. He's done a great job!

I wanted him out.....still thinking about the AD.

Wait.. the AD who brought in the football coach that everyone is coming around to, and the basketball coach that everyone is in love with (at least for now)?

Not to mention baseball, etc.

How much of this is Coach Brooks doing and how much of it is the impact of a very experienced and skilled senior class?

What do UK fans expect out of Brooks next season? What will define success, and what expectations will Brooks be held to when these players are gone?

I see your point, but lots of teams have talented senior classes, ... however, ... not all of them perform at or above what is expected of them. This coaching staff has to get the credit for getting these performances out of these kids. They have taken 2-3 star kids and have them playing above their projected level out of high school. Some posters on this website have stated that if Cantwell was at UK he would be the starter over Woodson (as recent as the past 2 weeks), and until this season, haven't given Andre much if any respect. UK has allegedly been losing the recruiting battles to UL, yet all of a sudden this is a skilled senior class? So we are to give Brooks the blame for what his first 3 seasons looked like, even while still on probation and not having full schollys, now he doesn't get credit for getting the program back on its feet, better than before the violations and ending streaks going back as far as 30 years? Is this the same senior class that before the season started most on here were predicting would be 2-2 at this point and would win 4-5 games total this year?

I do believe there will be a slight down season next year with the loss of this class, but not to any 2 or 3 win seasons. However, I would not be surprised to see UK still in bowl contention next season with a strong O line, experienced defense and solid group of running backs.

Brooks has exceeded the expectations last year and this year, and for that, his players and staff deserve the credit.

:thumb:Good post fc and I was one blasting him as well. I. like you owned up to it, posted and had my crow. Brooks has beyond the shadow of a doubt proved me wrong.
