As far as Elliott Uzelack goes, I think he is/was an outstanding football mind. Yes very stubborn and old school, probably to a fault. I know all of the inside scoop on Bill Curry, Tim Couch, and Elliott Uzelack situation and that is a whole other lengthy discussion. The option play is one of the most important plays to have in any offense because of the numerous "options" it gives an offense. The fact that many, many teams have won championships with it, speaks for itself. I am not saying it needs to be the base offensive play, but it does need to be in the offensive arsenal. You and I must just agree to disagree on calling it in the U of L game.....I thought it was a great call and that Andre poorly executed it in a critical situation. We don't disagree on the option I think it's a great play if you have the right people running it. Andre and Tim are not option type QB's.

September 27, 200718 yr That's the worst play call I've seen from UK since Joker took over as OC...he's done a wonderful job as OC, IMO, so he's earned the right to miss one every now and then. That option was one of those "What were you thinking?" calls...if we'd ran a HB Dive and converted and gone on to score a TD, we may have won that game going away... ...doesn't matter though. We won, and that's all I care about. I agree 110%. Joker has been excellent as the OC. There will be HC jobs open that I am sure his name will pop up for. I just hope we can hang on to him! His batting average on good play calls FAR exceeds what few bad calls he has made. We are on the same page! :thumb:

We are on the same page! :thumb: Joker won me over from the word go...I like the pro-style offense he runs, and I like the way he balances his play calling and keeps defenses off balance. He likes to establish the run, and he won't abandon it at the first sign of trouble. He really seems to have a good feel for how the games are going, IMO, with his play calling. I have questioned very few play calls from Joker, and I can't recall any game where I felt his play calling was bad. I'm always satisfied, or impressed. As I said, that option call is the worst one he's made, IMO. I honestly think he's one of the best kept secrets in college football...and I agree, I hope we can keep him. When he took over, I can't remember the season, but didn't he become the OC for the last couple of games...and one of them was against Tennessee. Shane Boyd was the QB, and I remember Joker really opening the offense up and letting Boyd play, instead of handcuffing him. The result was a surprising offensive display from a previously anemic bunch. When Woodson was a sophomore, he and our offense looked pretty good the first couple of games, but injuries (Keenan Burton and others) derailed us...and UK just didn't have the depth to absorb the losses. When Joker has had a full cast of players, his offenses have always been good.
September 27, 200718 yr I have heard him for years use the term 'we' didn't or 'we' did, ... but I don't hear him blaming individual players in public for losses. I do hear him go to bat for the kids and I have talked to several players, ... before they started winning that absolutely LOVE the man. I know for a fact that he refused to pull a scholarship offer from a kid who had verballed to him then blew his knee in high school only to have Brooks tell him 'when other bigtime schools came knocking, you honored your commitment to us and we are going to honor our commitment to you'. As far as hiring and defending 2 bad coordinators, ... it wasn't like they were wandering the streets panhandling because noone else would hire them. LSU hired Archer as their HC and NC State hired him away from UK. The Steelers hired him as their LB's coach and seemed to like him pretty well! He gave them every opportunity to succeed and they did not, so they were replaced. The defense was getting better under Archer by the end of last season with a lot of very young players, but the move to Brown has seemed to get the defense to continue their progress. As far as Hudson, ... he is Brooks' friend and Brooks went to bat for him, ... nearly lost his job because of it, ... and Hudson fell on the sword as many friends have been known to do. I do think he kept Hudson too long, but he did promote Joker and that has worked out pretty well so far (40 pts in 4 straight games for the first time in school history). Brooks is a class act who has the respect of the players and did it the right way. I suppose you would rather have Mumme who couldn't win without breaking the rules? Here are the reasons I think most want him to stay. 1. Class act 2. Turned a horrible situation into a good one 3. Stood tall and took the slings and arrows from UK fans (and others) and deserves to realize some of the fruits of his labors 4. Recruiting is better with his staff and NO VIOLATIONS!!! 5. Players love and respect him And no, ... I am not a johnny come lately. I have defended Brooks from the get go and as someone who has been a devoted UK fan since I was a child, .. it is good to see someone come along and do it the RIGHT way! Your point about the players loving him is true. Even after he gets up in their face and chews them out. Rich Brooks is very good at showing his players TOUGH LOVE. And the boys have responded to this man and his style. :thumb: He won me over when he stuck with Chris Cessna from North Laurel and honored his commitment to that young man AFTER he blew out his knee his senior season. He didn't have to and Chris knew he didn't have to. But a man of honor in the coaching profession is hard to find and even harder to keep. When need to keep Coach Brooks until HE decides he is ready to retire. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we have to have ALL the facts on which we can base our opinion IMHO. I respect KYPRIDE's right to his opinion, but feel the need to explain mine, whether it changes his mind or not. If Brooks hasn't already changed his mind, I doubt anything I say will. But, it's worth a shot!
