Best QB Ever at your School

Featured Replies

The list is long at Highlands:

Quinn Stuempel

Bert Bathiany

Kevin Siple

Dennis and Butch Stafford

And many more. I go with Lorenzen as the best.

That I've seen:

Complete Package: Eddie Eviston (Sam Diehl close)

Best Arm: Jeff Smith

Option QB: Scott Wiggins

I've heard that Tim O'Hara was a very good option QB in the late 70's.

have to agree Eviston and Smith are both great quarterbacks. Played with both. Eddie and I were actually roommates. Where I'm from, Gabe Stone in 1997-1998 ran the show.

Frankfort High would be Jimmy Dixon in the early 70's. He was a three year starter at Kentucky State.

Was that the QB for Coach Webb on his '77 state runner-up team?

In Pulaski County....

Modern era- Pulaski- Cole Draughn, with Chris Muse coming up.

Southwestern- Samuel Sexton (I agree)

Somerset- Johnny Cain, Max Messamore or Tony Massey

Massey was a QB right? I loved his defense even better at UK. Otherws have had more yardage but leadership is the key.

He was, if memory serves. I didn't think he was that great as a QB but he was the leader for those teams.

Brandon Smith or Jeff Duggins at Boyle...hard to pick between these two. I'll keep it as a tie.

I too think it would be hard to pick.

Honorable Mentions go to: Bart (?) Johnson, Robert Allen Yankey, C.T. Wolfe and Andy Baker.

Paul Karem was the best passing QB in St.X history but Rick Buehner was the best overall QB.

Lawrence has some really good QB's, but most of them known for running the option. But one who stands out above them all is:

Jason Michael - 4 year starter in High School, Led LC to regional Championship over Breathitt County that broke their streak I believe he had 39 wins as a starter.

Then he played on Western Kentucky's NCAA 1-AA Championship as their starting QB.

After WKU he was a grad assistant for Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee. He left there for a job with the Oakland Raiders for one year before landing his job now with the New York Jets as a an assistant Tight End coach.

Jason Michael

Honorable Mention:

Alan Short

Travis Phelps

Roger Lyons

Marvin Rose

No that was Jamie Bennett I would have to rate him a close second. Also before I started following Frankfort Ed Rall took the 68 team to the state finals and started at Centre. The guy I played with was probably a better footbal player than all of them Chad Wiard, good leader played corner on defense. I left out one very good one Steven Brown took the 90 team to the state semifinals probably the best athlete out of the bunch. You couldn't go wrong with any of these.

Pat Smith, Carroll Co.

Pat Sapp, wasn't it? I know he put about 500 yards up against Garrard County one night, although the Lions won the game.

Garrard County

Senior season in parentheses

Ronnie Daly ('67) - played at EKU

Doug West ('91) - played defensive back at UK; best option quarterback ever at Garrard

Nick Sullivan ('96) - played linebacker at EKU; 39-11 as starter at Garrard

Spencer Crutchfield ('04) - best spread option quarterback at Garrard; second-team all-state at defensive back; maybe the best all-around player I've seen at Garrard County (although I haven't seen them all)

Bill Hill had to be the best QB to ever play at MC Napier. Bobby Dixon was a close 2nd.

Al Holland Jr. at Perry Central. Timmy Neace is a close 2nd.

Leslie Co. obviously Tim Couch. But some pretty good honorable mentions.

Mike Whitaker

Greg Couch

Based upon my history with Highlands football here is my list in order.

1. Jared Lorenzen

2. Gino Guidulgi

3. Jim Abner

4. Dennis Stafford

Do not know much about those that played before the mid-70's. Some of the others mentioned are not in the same league as these guys were IMO.

Paul Karem was the best passing QB in St.X history but Rick Buehner was the best overall QB.

How does Brent Curley compare to those boys?

I think that the greatest may be there right now. We'll have to see how it plays out in his new few years. But I think that Tony Guidugli could surpass his brother Gino and Jarred Lorenzen as the best in Highlands history. Now he does not have the targets like Hamblen and Smith to throw to, but I think there are a few diamonds in the rough that they can use to exploit that unbelievable arm. P.S.-Best rushing QB at HHS has to be Cecil right now, with Chris Gallichio a close second-Man could he run the option!!

Jared Lorenzen hands down. Gino put up the stats but J-lo was more impressive and has gone further in his career.

To say that T Guido could be better is ridiculous, take it back already.
