Best QB Ever at your School

IMO Third...as in a fractured "third metatarsal" from being mentioned along the likes of Rick Buehner based on leadership, abilities and record but I may be a bit biased :D and definitely undereducated on the overall history of X football.

I never saw Paul Karem play, but I remember being in awe watching the Rick Buehner led Tigers during my teen years-he kept opposing defenses on their heels at all times. While he had outstanding overall abilities, his keen "football intellect" might have been his greatest asset. I venture to say Brent's strengths were similar and the credit for most of his "field" knowledge goes to Coach Jim Wagoner. I personally think Coach Wags return in 04 was extremely instrumental to the Tigers bringing home the hardware.

As a Trinity fan who's seen his fair share of the Tigers over the years I'd agree that Rick Buehner is their best. While I agree that Brent Curley was an excellent h.s. QB I'd rank James Sass & Jeff Houck ahead of Curley & right behind Buehner.

For the Rocks I'd rank them 1) B. Brohm, 2) J. Brohm, & 3) Craig DeSensi / Nick Petrino. JMO, good luck & see you next week! :thumb:

Jared was / is outstanding, but my vote goes to Roger Walz.

I too think it would be hard to pick.

Honorable Mentions go to: Bart (?) Johnson, Robert Allen Yankey, C.T. Wolfe and Andy Baker.

Chris Lemonds would be a solid choice. What an athlete! :p

If this is the same Michael Holmes i played with in the 80,s then he didn't play QB. I hope you meant someone else!!!!!

He QB-ed for me in FTJFL...I thought he continued on at qb...I could be wrong...it HAS happened. I'm old,,,early Alzheimer's...imbibe too much...etc....

Another QB from Raceland and one that I completely forgot about was Buddy Salyers. I didn't see him play (for once I am too young   ) but I have bee reminded about him and that he was signed by the Naval Academy as a QB and things kind of fell through when Navy at the same time signed a little - no talent QB by the name of Roger Staughbach  . I don't know whatever happened to that guy but I heard that he had a pretty decent carrer.:D

B. Salyers obviously got robbed :p  .

I am going to have to say two names that come to mind remember kinda young but Tyler Miller, and Joey Cantrell. Pound for pound would have to go to Tyler Miller.

No that was Jamie Bennett I would have to rate him a close second. Also before I started following Frankfort Ed Rall took the 68 team to the state finals and started at Centre. The guy I played with was probably a better footbal player than all of them Chad Wiard, good leader played corner on defense. I left out one very good one Steven Brown took the 90 team to the state semifinals probably the best athlete out of the bunch. You couldn't go wrong with any of these.

Ed Rall was my football coach at Boyle. I went to College with Raymond Webb's Daughter Lee Ann and having played the Panthers am familiar with how good those Frankfort squads with Bennett and Jones (?) were.

I would have to add Mike Couchot to this list for Russell. In my opinion Brent Muncy #1

Mike played wingback on the 85 Highlands team. Did not play any QB at the Varsity level.

How does Brent Curley compare to those boys?

Curley was very solid and a great leader but could not pass like Karem or run like Buehner, but Curley could find a way to win.

For Breathitt County, I'd say Kyle Moore, but I could break it down this way...

Best Career: Kyle Moore, 38-4 as a starter from '96-'98, including 15-0 Class 2A State Champs in '96 (10,026 passing yards, 61.1%, 111 TD)

Best Single Season: Justin Haddix, 2002 (15-0, Class 2A State Champions, 4359 passing yds, 65.9%, 58 TD, 1000+ rushing yards, double digit rushing TD's)...combining his passing, rushing and defensive TD's, he accounted for somewhere around 75-80 TD's in the '02 season.

I got the passing stats from the KHSAA records site, but I had to give the rushing from memory so I couldn't give exact numbers.

It seems you RHS fans are forgetting about the most recent qb at Raceland. Scott Grizzle who is the all-time passing leader in school history and helped lead the rams to the schools best ever record of 11-2....dont see how u can leave him off there. If im not mistaking he broke all the career records at RHS this past season with the exception of completion percentage. I think he ended up around 67% for his career and Pettrey was about 70%.

Art Daughtery ..... East Carter High School... early 80's

At Bellevue...as far as the best career I would say David Kiefer ('92). Then probably Nate Berkeley then Tom Kafel.

David was very good and fun to watch but he was a running back playing QB and not a purebred QB. Nate Berkley was probably the best at Quarterbacking. Here is my list.

Nate Berkley 2001'

Steve "Critter" Crittendon 83'

David Kiefer 92'

Jeff "Frog" Sprague 79'

I'm sure a few old fellas may be able to throw a couple names out there from the 50's or 60's.
