August 21, 200719 yr I'm in the market for a wireless router. I'm currently staying at a house with Zoomtown, and will need a router to use my laptop. Any suggestions?
August 21, 200719 yr I have Zoomtown as well, and am currently using a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 Speedbooster. Im happy with it. I have it in the family room in the downstairs and it was able to carry to the second floor of the house, but my old computer was a tad slow. I have a new laptop and am one floor up and get a great connection. Just make sure whatever router you choose that it is compatible to your operating system. I know there are differences between G and N and others on here could help you with that. Shop around, you may find a rebate on one and get it relatively cheap. I got mine at Staples. I think I got mine for about 60 bucks...been over a year.
August 21, 200719 yr Linksys is what I'd suggest as well. I've had mine for about three years now, with zoomtown. And usually no major problems, atleast not router related. Plus if you know the right places(I don't), there's some software out there that can really help with the speed as well. I'm not too savy in that area, that's why it pays to have a step dad that does computer networking for a living.
August 22, 200719 yr Linksys is the way to go. If you're only going to use it at home, Wireless N is a faster solution. However, it is not very well supported elsewhere. If you plan to use it anywhere in public, buy a wireless G card and router.
August 22, 200719 yr There is no more Linksys, they were purchased by Cisco some time ago, and Cisco has killed the Linksys name. I'm sure you can still get some Linksys stuff, but since it seems like everyone on here has one, just giving you a heads up.

August 22, 200719 yr Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 Speedbooster has worked for us. I just bought a laptop a few month's ago.
August 22, 200719 yr Author After purchasing I may have to make a thread pertaining to "securing my Linksys or Cisco". I can't wait to get my computer up and running, it's been over a month and fantasy season is about to begin.
