August 22, 200719 yr I'm the Director of IT at a place with 7 locations and I have over 5 years of experience in the IT field and I will say with 100% confidence that you need the Linksys Wireless G router from Wal Mart - should be around $50-60. Make sure you do NOT get the one with SpeedBoost. There are a couple of others that are cheaper (D-Link, for example), but they are more difficult to use and much more prone for problems. Also, the Linksys will offer you the most effective wireless signal. Hope this helps. Also, not trying to toot my own horn, just wanted you to be confident that I know what I'm talking about. What is wrong with the speedboost model?
August 22, 200719 yr Just made a reservation for an employee from Cisco, and he echoed what you stated Wireman, thanks for all the input. I don't have a wireless card, will I also have to purchase one of those then? As some mentioned, some laptops nowadays have them built in, others don't. So, you'll need to check out your laptop. As for your router, you're going to have to swap out the lan-line router that the house currently has for Zoomtown. Then, you'll have to call Cincinnati Bell and have them send a new signal to the house. They have one for lan lines and one for wireless, so a simple swap of routers will not work. If you purchase the wireless router from Cincinnati Bell, then they'll give you a day and time period within that day to setup the router. You won't be able to just go home, plug it in, and get a wireless signal.

August 23, 200719 yr How do you secure your wireless router? Here is another way for you to secure a wireless router that was provided to me by someone else. Check your router's "broadcast SSID" setting and disable it if it isn't already. While you're there you should probably rename it too - something other than "Linksys". Check if you have a General tab might be there. Also, check MAC Filtering. Input the addresses of the devices that you allow access to the Internet through your router. The MAC Address for your wireless card is printed on it, probably close to the card's serial number. I did forget to mention WEP/WAP (wireless encryption) with is basically putting a password on your router that each device must know when it tries to access. I'm not sure how the PSP handles encrypted networks. Good luck!
