June 22, 200719 yr This is just too smart of an answer for a thread that originated before the start of a softball league game. You just made my day....
June 23, 200719 yr With the technology that goes into building golf clubs today, definitely the driver!!!
June 23, 200719 yr Anyone know how to submit something to Mythbusters? I was thinking the same thing, would be fun to watch. Much like that helium football myth they busted.
June 24, 200719 yr Golf club....without question. While some clubhead speeds, can approach 100mph, not many bat speeds will ever get close to that number. The difference, is swing mechanics and load. A Linear swing is much different, that a Rotational swing of a golfer. A downward decent angle, is created with the forearm in Golf, while a downward and through angle, is created by the hands in baseball. The weight of the golf club, in relation to that of a baseball bat, is significant. The point of impact on a golf club, offers more of a trampoline effect, that that off a bat. I think a softball bat has a greater trampoline effect than any golf club.
June 24, 200719 yr Did anyone else catch the clip of Sexson using an aluminum bat during BP. He tagged one 475 ft in Safeco, rather impressive shot in that cavern.
June 24, 200719 yr Driver in general, but for me it's a baseball bat because I can't hit a golf ball at all.
June 25, 200719 yr I'll go with the bat. It can already hit a softball about 300ft (100 yards). Compare; a softball is 12 inches in (30.5 cm)circumference, while a golfball is approximately 5.3 inches in circumference. A softball has a weight of 6.8 oz compared to the golfballs weight of 1.62 oz. I'm not a mathmetician, but I will use what will fit my theory. size: A softball is 2.26 larger than a golfball which will hurt it chances for flight due to wind resistance and dont forget that golfballs are dimpled to reduce wind drag. So, if the bat could hit a softball 100 yards and the softball is 2.26 times larger than a golfball, a bat should hit the golfball at least 226 yards. A fair to decent drive for most amateur golfers. weight: since weight is a measure of gravity, a heavier object does not fly as well. Since a softball is 4.2 times heavier than a golfball, then a bat could be able to hit the lighter golfball 4.2times farther, or 420 yards. Average the two "bat/golfball" distances and you come up with 323 yards. Now that is distance that most pro players have a distance reaching. Try this, hit a softball with a golf club and see what you get. Does this theory mean that you could hit a marble, say 2000 yards. A marble is a little over an inch in circumference, about a fifth the size of a golf ball. Kinda sounds like fuzzy math.
June 26, 200719 yr My son tells me he and his friends tried this at a range. The bat won. Which could just mean they all stink at golf.
