KY All-Star tryouts?

Featured Replies

Somebody was having a flashback to the '89 Michigan squad!
Glen Rice would make this team, though ... give him credit for recognizing that, at least. ;)

Rodney Haddix is going to try-out..as he was a senior in highschool at Scott County this year and all these players participating in this game have no highschool basketball eligibility left...so why shouldnt he? He would also make the KY team a lot better, in turn representing Ky as a whole better.

I was wondering about this as well, because it would seem his situation is no different from that kid at Greenup Co. a couple years ago who made the KY AS team.

i cant wait for next years tryouts that class is loaded

At least Haddix played three years of high school basketball in Kentucky ... Jassy, the kid that attended both Greenup County and Rose Hill, never did.

With Haddix just coming off an injury, can he even be expected to play at the level that would show him deserving? I would think with not playing this year, he would need to put on a show at the tryouts to prove he deserves to be there.

Haddix is a competitor, he is a difference maker and I'm not sure that there are more than about two kids in the state who can keep up with him

Haddix was Scott County's leading scorer and rebournder in the 05/06 season. He had better numbers than Mackey or Walls.

Just a quick note, Saihou Jassey plays at D-1 Bradley University now.

So, the boys team is chosen differently than the girls team? Just curious! The girls are chosen by the 16 region POY, 10 more by state wide coaches, 10 more by the media and the last 4 spots by the team coaches.

I was referring to the selection process of who actually makes the team, not who gets to try out. While both processes are political, it will be better for the KABC to govern who is on the team - I think.

Boys tryout candidates are chosen the same way as the girls. Boys final team is chosen the same way as the girls team. Coaches of the year from each region run the try outs for the Head Coach. At the end of each session those coaches discuss what they saw and each players performance under these conditions and how they can possibly contribute to the team makeup.

At the end of try outs, the coaches give the final committee 16 names for consideration. The final committee consist of the Head Coach, Game Director (Ky. Lions Eye Foundation), and the Game Chairman. They select the final 12 players to make up the roster for the Ky All-Star Teams.

I couldn't agree more, at least 10 of the players are already pick before tryouts are even started and an additionally 2 or 3 are pick up by their performance IMO. I remember in 02' Quenton Smith from North Hardin was probably the 2nd or third best player at the tryout and didn't even make the squad.

In 03 Tyler Jones from Grant Co. shot lights out all weekend and Happy Osborne couldn't believe they didn't select him. He had a D-1 scholarship to Miami (OH) at the time.

Sorry about the spelling in my last post BTW, just noticed some errors...lol

When Casy Alsop/Scott Co, was a Sr. The KY coach stated in the Lex H-L he was going to run & shoot the 3 so who better than Casey for this game. Casey does not get selected & Ky shoots something like 3-26 from 3's at Indy & gets blown out. Its always way to political like most of these things are & you see what happens most of the time
