Featured Replies

Sounds like a good reason to me.
A very good excuse IMO, sad thing is that he probabiy had a 75% chance of making this team. But he has his priorties strait imo.:thumb:

I heard Jeremy Anderson declined because he will be attending summer school at Liberty this summer and would not be able to play.
Kinda figured it would be something like that ... Anderson doesn't seem like the kind of kid to just blow off the tryouts with a compelling reason.

A couple of things... players not showing.. Anderson, Brooks and a few others.. happens every year.. bad advice.. give back to the state you played in!! Indiana doesn't have that problem. with more good kids to choose from! For those of you who put Tim Riley on the list as your all star coach...He was the coach last summer (0-2) as the coach. As far as Haddix is concerned...he wasn't a senior at a state high school ..thus he doesn't qualify.. those are the rules....Tryouts werre OK.. as always some surprises.. some name players didn't have good tryouts.. do you select them anyway? An a few of the lesser names.. played well.

Riley didnt have much to work with last season. Also Rodney Haddix was a student this semester in Kentucky (tough call on him).

Anderson just signed with Liberty ... what, a week or so ago? I assume that part of the deal was that he attend summer school there. You can't blame a kid for getting a head start with his new college program.

Bad advice ... that would have applied to Jared Carter not trying out two years ago.

So ... who looked good and who didn't? Surprises? Disappointments?

Haddix didn't play a minute of high school basketball in Kentucky last season because he was ineligible ... it shouldn't be that tough of a call.

Not to mention that it is quite tough to beat Indiana anyway....

Especially when they have two guys that would be NBA lottery picks the next year ...

I know that Oden didn't play last year, but it didn't matter ... Indiana had far superior talent.

Please note this is just my opinion on what I observed at the tryouts. My list of surprises by no means indicates that they were not good going in. I just havent heard much about some of them.

Disappointments: Josh clemons, Ty Proffitt(bad shooting, looked too slow), Jeff Brooks No Show, Matt Fraliex one of states leading scorers didn't stand out, Andre Miller.

Surprises: Tanner Jacobs, Robert Troutman, Greg Rice, Reggie Smith, Davin Anderson, Matt Daniels, and Ryan Whitaker.

How is the rules written? Do you have to play high school basketball in the state of Kentucky in order to play that season? If that is the case then I would think there would never be a discussion about the subject.

Greg Rice and Ryan Whitaker doesnt surprise me at all. I picked both to make the ream, although Ryan may have been a bit of a long shot.

Question: Did they cut the # of players trying out down after Friday night?

You may not be surprised at Whitaker, but nobody outside of Bell County is picking him to make the team. I still say he won't make it.

He may not, but his dad is there helping because he was 13th region coach of the year. Hopefully that would have no barrings on anything. But Whitaker is a solid player and he got a full ride scholarship to Lincoln Memorial University. So he does have the ability to be a good basketball player.

I never said he didn't have the ability to be a good basketball player. But the fact is that most all of those trying out got full rides to play college ball. Whitaker is a good player, but not one of the 12 best in Kentucky. If he was a 4 or 5, he'd have a better chance to make the team, but he's not among the better perimeters at tryouts.

Well I have no idea. I wasnt there. And there is a lot of players trying out that I haven't seen. And for the record I picked him as my 13th guy, so if there is only 12 I dont think he would make it.:p
