This attitude drives me nuts. When is the "black community" going to become part of the American community? I don't know how widespread this attitude is, but I think it has become the biggest reason for the rift between whites and blacks today.

Howard Stern is one to talk. Pot calling the kettle black here ? Sterns statement hold no water. His show includes a mentally handicaped person that goes by the name of "Gary The Retard", a black dwarf who I also believe has some type of learning disability and a raging alcoholic. I know when his show was on E Television it was basically a half hour of Stern making fun "Gary the Retard", the black dwarf and the alcoholic all while paying women a few dollars to degrade themselves on national television.

My thoughts ? It takes a lot to offend me. The remarks (as idiotic as they were) did not offend me in anyway. I dont get offended when I am referred to as a "Cracker" in a hip hop song or when a African comedian calls my race "White Devils." At the end of the day Imus is an idiot for saying what he said on a national level.

 

I believe someone earlier said something to the tune of "People are people". In a perfect world this is true. This world however is not close to being perfect. Sharpton should have stayed out of this in my opinion.

I don't agree with what he said, but lets be honest here, If Chris Rock or say Ludacris said the exact same thing in an interview on Imus's show instead of Imus saying it, we wouldn't be having this conversation and this thread (or any thread like it) wouldn't exist. Not to mention the girls on the team wouldn't be feeling "deeply injured".

NEW YORK -- Bruce Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., said Wednesday the broadcasting company needs a "zero tolerance policy" on racism and hopes talk-show host Don Imus is fired for his demeaning remarks about the mostly black Rutgers women's basketball team.

Mr. Gordon is a complete hypocrite. He wants a zero tolerance policy on racism and wants Mr. Imus fired for what he said. I think that is funny. He is a director of CBS Corp, whose parent company is Viacom, which owns Famous Music. Some of the artist recording for famous music are Eminem, Nappy Roots, Busta Rhymes, & Akon.

 

I could attempt to quote some of their fine lyrics on here, but I doubt I could find anything that would pass the word filter. So should the zero tolerance policy only apply to old white radio personalities or are they prepared to begin censoring their musical artists as well.

Through free speech yes but this "shock jock" label, is what's wrong with a lot of Americans today. Often, these same comments, attitudes and opinions, are being expressed more and more, from the work place to private.

This amazes me...Imus opened his mouth, made the statements himself and we need to blame his employers, couldn't disagree more.

 

Regardless of his show, content or "this is what Imus does", does not absolve him from accountability. He made the statements himself and contrary to previous other comments, this is not about music, comedians, lyrics, but about what Imus said, specifically regarding Rutgers.

 

Free speech is a constitutional right, but that doesn't override decency, common sense and no back lash....speaking of which, has just cost Imus his simulcast. Good ridden Imus and all the microphone, putrid slingers, whom claim to be entertainers.

Imus has been in the biz for about 40 years. This isn't the first time he has used questionable judgement in what he has said over the airwaves. His employeers know what he is capable of but yet retain him on the airwaves because he gets good ratings. IMO it is no different than if Howard Stern would have said something along these lines (Which he has and probably worse) and they his employeer acts as if they are surprised by the comments.

 

 

The employeer should hold some responsibility for his actions. He isn't a new unknown personality. Its like a school hiring a know pedofile and then acting shocked and surpirsed when he touches a kid.
