Do you really think that anyone cares or remembers who finished 2nd. I can assure you that MOST high school players (All-Americans included) can't name the last five National Champions, much less the runner-ups. I understand that as an IU fan it is important to you, just as UK's runner-up finish in 1997 (sandwiched between to Championships:D ) is important to me and most UK fans, but it really is not relevant.:sleep:

Sure, that's the pitch, but when the next guy is Leader K and he can talk about stuff the kid REMEMBERS, that's going to pack more of a punch.

 

Well true, but the new coach can come in now and talk about the tradition and everything, and how that kid could end up being the kid the guy that gets this storied program back on track...The kids know that UK is one of the top schools, and telling them that they could be the ones who gets UK back to where they need to be, could be a very good selling point for the new coach...

Just 9 short years ago UK was playing in the championship game for the 3rd year in a row. When is the last time IU did that?

Math isn't that simple when you're working with dates and time.

 

If it were 5 pm on Friday, and you said the last five work days had been horrible, would a logical person take that to mean last friday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday had been bad, or that monday-friday had been bad?

 

That's right, kids. They'd take it to mean that work week, including Friday. Because you have to include the current day, especially if the current day is pretty much finished.

 

The past 10 'basketball years' (most people call them seasons ) have been with out two Kentucky trips to the Final Four. You MIGHT have had an argument a week ago, but we now have the participants for the 2007 Final Four in the books. But you don't want to count 2007? That's just stupid.

2005- North Carolina, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan St

2004- UConn, Ga Tech, Duke, OK State

2003- Syracuse, Kansas, Texas, Marquette

2001- Duke, Arizona, Maryland, Michigan St

2000- Michigan St, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina

1998- Kentucky, Utah, North Carolina, Stanford

 

2007-1998= 10 years in the context of this discussion. In those 10 years, Kentucky has been the Final Four once.

Most UK fans do realize the game has changed and year in and year out dominance is a thing of the past...Too much parity in todays game...It's that crazy 18% out there that hasn't a clue and unfortunately, that same group is what gets linked to the entire fanbase, in the eyes of others... Trust me, there's alot of great fans in this state that will support the Cats every game, no matter what, and then theres the grumblers, just looking for a reason to complain, and thats what the media always jumps on.. Guys, let's look in the mirror and get real..MANY and MOST of the bad perception about UK basketball is caused by these unrealistic fans, so, if you want UK back to prominence, keep it realistic...

If I am counting correctly, 27 different teams have been to the final 4 in the past 10 seasons. Dang Tubby! Why did he let that happen!!!! Dang it that SEC isn't a 1 trick pony any more! It is all Tubby's fault! :madman:

My post mentioned nothing about the Final Four. But if you want to play it that way... 9 different teams have been to the Final Four twice or more since the last time UK went.

Duke - 1999, 2001, 2004

Florida - 2000, 2006, 2007

UNC - 1998, 2000, 2005

tOSU - 1999, 2007

UConn - 1999, 2004

Maryland - 2001, 2002

Kansas - 2002, 2003

UCLA - 2006, 2007

 

Notice anything? UK is the only one of the big 4 that doesn't make the cut.

 

Don't blame it on the SEC being harder either. There are three ACC teams on the list, and two from the Big 10. Actually... it looks like the SEC is a one trick pony, but that pony is Florida.
