I'll agree with you there. But we're only a few years removed from that 16-0 conference season and a #1 overall seed. True, that run ended earlier than anticipated, but UK has had success since 1998.

Besides, I was trying to give some props to IU's program. If they get a real coach in place (i.e., not Mike Davis), and I think they have a good one in Kelvin Sampson. I'm not particularly fond of his style, but he was pretty successful at Oklahoma, so if he can get it done there he can get it done at IU. They will return to a high level. Why? Because, like UK, they have the tradition, the support and the fan base to sell recruits on the program. You can't discount how important those factors are. It makes rebuilding easier for a good coach when they have that as a selling point. I fully expect IU to return to a high level of basketball.

Honestly, I think when a recruit has already signed with a school with tradition, tradition becomes a lot more important to them. That's true of anything.

As in anything, different people will have different things that motivate them. Some it will be tradition, some it will be being on tv, some it will be readying them from the NBA, some it will be the coach, some it will be where the parents say they are going and for some it will be a combination of some of these or all of these.
