I guess that is why some friends of mine who are Kansas fans think that Bill Self has been a failure at Kansas.

 

I think the season along with tournament performance should determine if the season was a success or not. The final four is great, but after a year or so, I cannot remember who the other final four teams were besides the champion.

Bill Self has never been to the Final Four at Kansas.

So you're saying championships don't mean anything, just Final 4 appearances?

Sure they matter. But there's not a big difference in the prestige of winning the whole shooting match and making the Final Four. Just like there's not a big perceived prestige difference between making the Elite Eight and the Sweet Sixteen. But look at the gap of prestige between making the Elite Eight and the Final Four: Tubby made the Elite Eight as consistantly as anybody, but without Final Four appearances UK fans were completely unsatisfied.

It was starting to look as though UT as well as Florida were bypassing UK in the SEC and there did not seem to be a lot of help on the way for the Cats.

Actually this was Self's 2nd Elite 8 in four years at Kansas and 4th of his career( 1 at Tulsa, 1 at Illinois). I'd take him at UK in a minute he can flat out recruit.

Which is the difference between adequacy and success. If UK made the Sweet 16 the past two years, Kentucky fans are still unsatisfied, but there aren't constant 'Scrub the Tub' threads.
