March 24, 200719 yr Mitch Barnhart is really a nightmare for UK..I remember being in Hawaii in 2004, I had a shirt with the outline of the state of KY on it...some people from Corvallis came over and said they were so happy that he was gone. He's far from a nightmare.
March 24, 200719 yr The Tubby Bashers become Barnhart Bashers? Sounds like UK Bashers to me. Nope.. the Tubby SUPPORTERS become Barnhart Bashers. The Tubby Bashers would be glad he's gone, right?
March 24, 200719 yr Nope.. the Tubby SUPPORTERS become Barnhart Bashers. The Tubby Bashers would be glad he's gone, right? I am a Tubby supporter and a Barnhart supporter. I think that Barnhart didn't want Tubby to leave but understood why he wanted to. You have to look at this in a positive way and see this as a great opportunity to start another successful era in Kentucky Basketball. Barnhart has done a great job in developing the Athletics department. A good percentage of UK Athletics have improved during his tenure.
March 24, 200719 yr Okay Final 4's then. From the late 50's to 1975, that is approximately 18 years, they went to a grand total of ONE final 4. I think we all know how that game ended against Texas Western. In some reading on the UK website I was doing the other day, I read, I believe it was Rupp reached 5 Final 4's. That was it. In his 42 years of coaching, he won 3 of his 4 national championships by 1951. One the other in 1958 I believe. It would be 20 years later before UK won another. Had all 4 of his 30 win seasons by 1951. Couldn't duplicate that feat in the last 21 years. Tubby did it twice, once with his own recruits. Went to 2 more Final 4's after 1951. If it is only about Final 4's and Tubby's success was not enough, then Rupp's after 1951 wasn't either for today's UK fan. Excellent post.
March 25, 200719 yr Exactly the point of the unrealistic UK fan. You enjoyed 10 years ago when they were on a run from 96 to 98. And when else was UK able to repeat that type of run, OH.....let's see,....here it is.....in 1948 to 1951. What you experienced in 96 to 98, happens for UK every 45 years. NOT every 4 to 5 years. If you feel I am wrong on that, please name another time in UK's basketball history that was similar to 96-98 with 3 championship runs besides the one in the late 40's and early 50's. The times you are referring to UK has been able to do JUST TWICE in it's history. That is it. TWICE. The other 50 some years are very similar to Tubby's last 9 years. The UK basketball history is more like Tubby's last 9 years than it is not. Unrealistic? Who said anything about going to the final four every year. The probation years when we won nothing were more enjoyable for me to watch than the last two years.
March 25, 200719 yr Tubby knew the standards when he came...he wasn't living up to them, so he's gone. Here is something I haven't seen said on here before. I have seen where the Tbers have talked alot how Tubby has the longest drought for us ever without going to the final four. However while looking at the banners in Rupp today, I saw there were a couple of time periods where we didn't make it for 9 years. So for Tubby to have the record for longest drought, that would mean he would have had to pass another coach who had the old record, and well I may be wrong here, but wasn't Adolf Rupp one of the guys who had the old record for longest drought in the final four? Yet he is a guy who was a GREAT coach here at UK. Yet Tubby got all kinds of critiscm for now having the longest drought, but no one talked about who had the record before, and they dont think he is bad...:sssh:
March 26, 200719 yr Who would have thought that Kentucky would keep Coach Brooks longer than Coach Smith? Coach Smith has averaged 26 WINS a year. The one that needs to go his Barnhart. Yeah lets get rid of Barnhart, all he has done is bring in several successful coaches to lead the "non-revenue" sports such as baseball, womens basketball. He is the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, not the basketball director as so many people in Kentucky seem to think. Keep up the good work Mitch.
March 26, 200719 yr ^ How many Championships does Rupp have/ He had 4. 3 by 1951. And only one in the last 21 years of his coaching career at UK. Also, if I remember correctly, 2 Final 4 appearances in the last 21 years of his coaching career at UK. He would have been fired early than the 70's by today's UK fan.
March 26, 200719 yr Tubby has won games in the last 8 years BUT not the ones that count!!! Agreed 5wide, the UK program is a WRECK!!!!
March 26, 200719 yr Barnhart made a good decision w/ Brooks. He & the fans will also need to be patient w/ the new basketball coach since the program is destroyed & will take years to get out of the Tub!!
March 27, 200719 yr Maybe we should just fire the whole department and hire Eddie Sutton as the A.D. And have Eric Manuel in charge of C.A.T.S., particularly with improvemnts on the ACT.
March 27, 200719 yr And have Eric Manuel in charge of C.A.T.S., particularly with improvemnts on the ACT.
March 27, 200719 yr ^ How many Championships does Rupp have/ 4 NCAA. Hall has 1, Pitino has 1, and OTS has 1. If sneaky Eddie hadn't got caught with his hand in the cookie jar he probably would have had one.
