Who would have thought that Kentucky would keep Coach Brooks longer than Coach Smith? Coach Smith has averaged 26 WINS a year. The one that needs to go his Barnhart.

Barnhart MUST stay. He has hired a football coach that has the Cats program turning the corner, WITHOUT CHEATING; he has the women's basketball program in excellent hands, the minor sports (baseball, softball, soccer, etc) are excelling, and now he faces his biggest test, ... replacing a UK basketball coach.

Outside of raising football ticket prices before the Cats turned the corner, I cannot see one misstep he has made. I LOVE Tubby and wish him well. I hated to see him go. But that is not Barnhart's fault. 10 years in one place is long enough. Nobody has lasted as long as Tubby did at UK since Adolph Rupp. If he passes this test and brings in a top notch coach (which I still believe will be difficult given the heat that Tubby felt with 26 wins a year), he will be able to stay at UK as long as he likes.

4 NCAA. Hall has 1, Pitino has 1, and OTS has 1.

If sneaky Eddie hadn't got caught with his hand in the cookie jar he probably would have had one.

Eddie did get to a final 4. But I don't think he would have lasted much longer at UK even if the Cats didn't get in trouble with him at the helm.

He had 4. 3 by 1951. And only one in the last 21 years of his coaching career at UK. Also, if I remember correctly, 2 Final 4 appearances in the last 21 years of his coaching career at UK.

He would have been fired early than the 70's by today's UK fan.

He was forced to retire and went kicking and screaming.

Maybe we should just fire the whole department and hire Eddie Sutton as the A.D.

And Dwayne Casey and Claude Bassett in charge of mail communication and package shipment to recruits and their families.:D

Which year?

Which year?

Sutton reached the Final Four with Arkansas in 1978, but not with UK.

I thought he was talking about the Sutton years at UK.

One thing that popped into my mind as I read some posts in here.

Barnhart MAY lose his job depending on who he is able to get. Billy D spurs UK's offer (and I am not sure on whether staying at Florida or going to the Heat would be a bigger problem to Barnhart) and Barnhart is not able to land one of the big coaching names and this could be the first step to his downfall. UK men's team struggles for 2-3 years and the lack of landing Billy D would be a huge cry across the Commonwealth in firing Barnhart.

This hiring or lack of hiring of Billy D might cost Barnhart his job.

The UK faithful, I am afraid, will not accept anyone but Billy D. It is almost like it is THEIR right to have the coach they want. And if they don't get it, I am afraid we will see a two-year tantrum complete with flinging themselves on the ground (Internet) kicking and screaming about Barnhart's poor job in landing Billy D.

As with Tubby, it will be irrelevant on his actual record is (with football and the other sports) but the perception on what they deem important.

Are you really sure what it is your trying to say? First you say the program was not full of problems and now you say it was a mess when Brooks took over. Which is it?

If there is some misinterpretation I apologize. Let me clarify.

You posted Brooks inherited "nothing but problems"

My response to that was Mumme created the problems and Morris did right with the situation. I also disagreed Brooks inherited "nothing but problems"

It was a lot worse than most people know and when Morris was became the head coach, Lee Todd also became the President and Barnhart also soon became the AD. Remedies were started under Morris and some things got better. The program was not all sun and roses, but it wasn't in the gutter either. The next couple of years was when the effects of probation would hit the hardest. When Morris left, yes there were still problems, but they were not of his tenure. His two years were overall very positive. Last year really is the first year probation has not had a lingering effect. Brooks did inherit some problems, but the genisis of those problems did not lie with Guy Morris, but with Hal Mumme, which was the intent of my response.

Barnhart made a good decision w/ Brooks. He & the fans will also need to be patient w/ the new basketball coach since the program is destroyed & will take years to get out of the Tub!!

Tubby never won less than 20 games, never went to the NIT, and never went 1 and out in the NCAA. The next coach will not be able to say that. You can say that Tubby left it in shambles, however, it wouldn't have been had he stayed. You can't assume that next year would have been the first for the things above for Tubby, but it will be now.

I can't wait for the NIT berth next year to be blamed on Tubby. Priceless.

His first 8 years he was winning, and his resume was just fine when it came to WINNING. However there were alot of people then to that wanted him gone, so apparently winning wasn't everything. As I been saying in alot of threads, Tubby was doomed from the start for alot of people, because alot of people just never wanted him here. Pitino was God for alot of people, and well trying to follow that up is impossible for any coach. Who ever followed Pitino was doomed, and I know there is no way we would no for sure. But I would be willling to bet that if we had gotten another coach other than Tubby, that they wouldn't have been able to last as long as Tubby and the pressure from the fans, because that coach wouldn't be wanted either. Every place you see, when a legend leaves a team, the next coach is never liked as much and usually doesn't last, no matter what they do...

I do agree that following Pitino was a no win situation...I'll give Tubby props for that. Personally, I think Pitino was a great coach, but I didn't particularly like him and I wasn't sad when he left. As far as personality (from my limited knowledge), I definitely like Tubby better, but it just wasn't working for him and UK...I think a change will be good for both. And, I'm glad to hear Pitino put the rumor of his return to bed, because I didn't want him back.

^ How many Championships does Rupp have/

Also, you can't compare the coach who built the program to anyone else...it's apples to bananas.

I am glad that you are satisfied w/ mediocrity but I am not!! If i am not suppose to assume that next year would have been bad?? How can you assume that it would be good?? That is your own personal opinion!! As you have yours, I have mine!! AGAIN here is my opinion on why Tubby should have left & the reason's why I am glad of it!!

1. Lost to vandy 4 (2 @ rupp) times straight & florida 6 (3 @ rupp)

2. Last 2 8 seeds & lost in 2nd round

3. Cannot beat a top 25 team (Kansas was a much better team than UK)

4. No final 4s in 9 years (longest drought)

5. imo, our roster is full of MEDIOCRE PLAYERS!!! he did get tayshaun, hayes, bogans, morris but they are not close to Mashburn, Walker, Chapman, Sheppard, Delk, Magloire (recruited by Pitino), Nazr, Padgett, Pope, Anderson, etc. (other players in previous 10 yrs)

6. imo, I do not like the style & the games are boring!!

7. He's gotten almost 2 mil per year for several years & while loading his pockets, he's put the program in shambles!! The moral guy, also took another 1.5 mil for the road.

8. He has won 20 games BUT look at the comparison of W/L record against top 25 teams & all others. We consistently beat EKU, Iona, etc but we have not faired well against the likes of the all mighty Vanderbilt Commodores

9. We were the FOURTH SEED in the SEC EAST!!!!!!

10. Don't give me a turd & call is rose

Rupp also had to play during the dynasty of Wooden!! Wooden won championships w/ players like Walton, Alcinder, etc. He didnt win it just for his coaching ability alone.

Funny, #10 is my opinion of a large percentage of the Big Blue Nation.
