NKY Spring Football (Take #2)

Featured Replies

I am going to post regional threads on this topic. I want to know what teams in NKY are going to have spring football practice and what that practice consists of? Then the fun part will be comparing how much schools do in the spring and how successful they are in the fall.

How about it?

So far we have:

1. Highlands will take full advantage of spring football.

2. NCC will do what they can with what they have available in spring ball.

3. Carroll County will be doing some spring football but we don't know to what extent.

4. CCH will start the Monday after basketball but they have a new head coach so no one knows for sure at this point.

5. ?

I've coached in a similar situation to Bellevue's. (numbers-wise) In the end, we realized we needed to practice. Some years we could only work half-line during scrimmage situations. But, in the end, it was a great opportunity to work on individual drills and give the kids the one-on-one instruction they needed.

Bellevue does not do spring practice because coach Eckstein does not want to interfere with the spring sports. The vast majority of his players are playing baseball and running track. In a small school like Bellevue (with only a little over 100 boys 9-12) it is important that the athletes play as many sports as possible. They are continuing to lift weights. The spring sports coaches work with him so the athletes can lift as often as possible. He is only being fair back to them.

I totally agree. That's exactly what we did. The only kids we had were the ones that didn't play spring sports. It's not an easy situation. One that a lot of the larger schools take for granted. IMO

Dixie Heights nothing.

Coach Eckstein does a great job of working with the spring coaches. I am sure he would love to have the kids but he respects baseball and the other spring sports.

Dixie Heights nothing.

Why is this? Dixie shouldn't have the numbers problem like Bellevue does.

No 2 adays in the summer either. Makes you wander

I agree its not an easy situation, but most if not all of the small schools are in the same boat, so it is somewhat equal for all of the small schools. And I doubt the larger schools take it for granted. Most folks that support the larger schools understand that the smaller schools just can't do spring football they way the larger schools can.

5. Beechwood in progress

6. Bellevue nothing due to spring sports conflicts

7. Dixie nothing, Dixie no two a days

Trimble County is having spring practice, with consistent numbers each day. They are going through offensive and defensive strategies and giving their new QB some practice.

Makes you wander What? That Dixie is committed to winning? That Tom S. doesn't know what he's doing? I don't wander at all, I know that Tom handles his program and his kids in a manner that he feels works best for them.
